My 992.2 prediction: the base 911 Carrera gets 400 hp and the S adds e-hybrid electric assist totaling 520 hp while getting 30 mpg and a $10k widened price premium.

This has been going on for years already.

Back in the 90s it was reported that BP had a formula for synthetic fuel... but the technology didn’t exist to make it on mass.

The OPEC countries have no interest in funding this, would probably pay the patent holders to keep quiet about it.

00s, batteries have taken a leap forward and more so in the 2010s. Still the ethical and environmental cost of producing them is off the scale.

1st world governments are probably going in the right direction, but it’ll bite them at some point, and hard!

As for your beloved 911, well Audi have already started on mild hybrid design, 911s are already E10 compliant (10% ethanol compared the the current 5% in petrol), I don’t see a jump head first into the full electric 911, more a slower shift into similar way described by Chris Harris “it’s the same engine as before, everything else around it has been improved.....”

That can happen for the next gen too, fuel change, mild hybrid, material reworks, energy harvesting (KERS type thing), smarter engine management, even more horrible normal driving modes......

Ways around most things, as my account says “they teach you what you can’t do, so get creative with what you can.... it’s quite a lot!”

Make no mistake, when the end is in sight, Porsche will milk every dollar possible from the market.

992 GT3 RS Final Edition | 600bhp NA PDK
992 GT3 Final Edition | 580bhp NA 6MT & PDK

There will be plenty of notice before we get there, until then, everything just building up to the crescendo.

Oh wow, ok then. I thought you were kidding. GTS party up front, Spyder in the rear...

Except the entire car is a compromise because there's already a 718 Spyder (and it's a GT product to boot!)

IMO only.....

incandescent light bulb = ICE Engine - fantastic, very, very long lived, still around and very useful today.

compact florescent CFL = Electric Car - short lived, range (use) still not up to ICE levels no matter what is stated, decreasing levels of performance with battery drain, must recycle toxic components, mine rare earth materials via gas/diesel engines, etc.

LEDs = there just has to be something better than the CFL of the automotive world. Something better than a 4,000lb box of batteries and motors. The thought of being made to own one - makes me cringe, I'm still holding out for something better.

Indeed, the battery pack needs an order of magnitude improvement in the ratios for weight, power density, charge time. You can't make an EV sports car that weighs 5000 pounds, just forget it, I don't care how fast it goes in a straight line.

That's pretty awesome. In North America, this would make the "gotta be a NA flat-six" crowd's collective head spin. I'd love a 718 Spyder with a 2.5 turbo 4.

But this is neither a new engine nor a new chassy/body kit.
It´s simply putting the engine from the entry level Boxster into the Spyder body. Special downsizing model by re-combining exisiting components for the biggest Porsche market.

This prediction is extremly unlikely. The NA engine is defintely at its limits. Every engineer can explain in detail. Unfortunately I have the explanation only in German from pff.de
The increase in power over the last 2 gens was minimal already and even the current RSR with the 4.2l engine only produces ~520bhp.

I thought Porsche was working on a synthetic fuel that was as clean as an EV? Maybe that will prolong the lifecycle of the ICE engine for Porsche?

What makes you think the governments won't ban that fuel as well? This isn't driven by science, its being driven by government mandate. Modern ICE engines aren't highly polluting right now, so developing synthetic fuel to improve further on that won't do anything to stop the green movement, its a religion for them.
