Windows down and opening the door? Is this normal?

Is this normal behavior?
IF my windows are down and I park; leaving the windows down when I park. Once I open the door, the windows will go up about 1-1.5" and once the door closes, they go back down.
I know that if windows are UP and you open and close the door, they drop down a couple MM and go right back up once closed. But Ive never had widows FULL down that go up 1-1.5" (and back down) when I open the door to get out.

Mine do the same thing. Every now and then, if they are fully closed, and I open the door, they don't drop the extra couple of mm, which then makes it hard to fully close the door again. I have had to restart the car, lower the window, shut the door, and raise the window.
Lots of little gremlins in the car so far.

But if my windows are full DOWN and I shut down and open up the door. I get 1-1.5 INCHES up and down and I dont understand why.

AFAIK all cars with frameless doors/windows do this - it's to ensure that a proper seal is made upon closing. If the window is fully up when you close, it may not make a proper seal around the top edge. If the window is fully down when you close, I believe the thinking is that it may not get into the correct track once you do end up closing the window...but I could be wrong on that one.

My guess on the raising feature is the window glass is better supported in this position for slamming the door shut!

Thanks gentlemen.
I can totally understand the function if the windows are FULL UP. That Im use too and have seen many times.
But this was a first regarding the windows being FULL DOWN and seeing them go up a inch or two only to go right back full down. But as you guys suggested.... perhaps its to keep the window from rattling or whatever when slamming the door shut.
Its just the first time Ive seen this coming from a 20117 991.2 and a 2019 991.2.

It's a tad bit irritating to have the window come up and hit my arm as I am reaching out.

Does it on my 992, also did it on my 991.2. I notice it easily on both cars as I have a security card that I use to open my parking gate. Since I do not want to risk curb rash on my wheels, my arm cannot reach the reader without the door open.

Interesting! Neither of my 991.2's did windows up IF the window was full down!
BUT... I did have my 991.2's feature coded. Which means, they used PWIZ to allow me to roll up or down my windows and glass roof when walking up to or walking away from my 911. I wonder if activating those features disabled the windows up and down IF FULL DOWN.

It's normal behaviour to make sure window is in a secure position when the door is closed. If you want to see why they do this... lower your window all the way down and disconnect the battery. Then when you close the door you're going to hear the window rattle around in the door.

I haven't noticed with the windows up and the top up because I always drive with the top down.

The 991 does the same thing. It was always explained that it reduces shock / rattling of the window inside the door when it is down and the door is being closed. Being raised slightly gets it into contact with the weather seal, etc. and holds it in place better for the sideways shock load.
