Default Weight Saving Options

I seem to recall a thread that showed how much weight the carbon roof saves, and thought it was around 4 pounds (3.8 sticks in my mind for some reason). I cannot find that thread any longer, despite spending a bunch of time searching.

However, that got me thinking about all the options that save weight. (If this information already exists in one place, happy to be pointed that direction and can delete this thread.)

Factory options:

Carbon roof: 30% compared to steel (IIRC 3-4 pounds)
PCCB: 40 pounds (based on some other threads I saw)
4-way vs. 14-/18-way seats: ~60 pounds
Lightweight/insulated glass: 8 pounds
Sunroof delete: ??? (this almost seems like it would a weight increase depending on which of the two sunroof options a buyer spec'd)
Manual Transmission: 77 pounds
Base interior (i.e., not full leather): ???

Aftermarket options to save weight:

Aftermarket wheels: 20-40 pounds
AntiGravity Battery: 40 pounds
Exhaust: 18 pounds (depends on specific system)

I can update this with other options/suggestions as they come up.

Cool thread, Mark! I’d be eager to hear the actual weight savings from wheels - unsprung weight reduction might be my first mod.

Save $4k to gain 4 lbs of weight savings with the carbon roof versus aluminum - unless you love the look! Go for an Antigravity Battery (they are forum sponsors) and lose 40 lbs for $700-950. I had one in the Touring and it was awesome. Install is about 20 minutes for this idiot. It will be going in my 992 as soon as it shows up.

A 40 lbs weight loss is felt.

And, I ask this: how much more does the Burmester system weigh than the Bose system? Help.

right, I am hoping it weighs substantially more so I can talk myself out of the Burmester and into sticking with the Bose

The manual transmission is also a huge weight savings... 56 pounds.

I heard from an unconfirmed source that the aluminum PDK gear selector shaves 2oz.

You might be looking at 10 lb+ per wheel with aftermarket and the most obvious difference in feel.

I read that it was 84 lbs. The weight in the new PDK came in large part because it was engineered with an extra "tunnel" for the future hybrid system it will be mated too in 1-2 years. Yes, we all new it was real, a 911 hybrid with PDK is right around the corner.

I thought about that as I was replying to Anupe's build thread. I'd be curious what the weight savings is between the two.

Yes, manual saves a lot. On the Wikipedia 992 page it shows a weight savings of 77 pounds--I'll use this for now in the first post.

I say we wait for a couple wrecked 992’s to show up on salvage sites. Buy both of them; one with leather & one without. Then we can tear them apart and weigh the difference

My best guess on relative roof weights: lightest to heaviest.

The Carbon Fibre roof would be the lightest (better be considering the cost).

The second-lightest would be the standard aluminum non-opening roof (Porsche illustration shows aluminum panels in green).
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2019...911-18802.html

The opening metal sunroof would be appreciably heavier than the non-opening roof as it's steel rather than aluminum (according to the configurator) and also has motor and cassette.

The glass roof is likely the heaviest option: glass weighs a lot compared to aluminum or steel and there is also motor and cassette.
