I have always wondered if the Sport Respnse button made a difference but in this video (albeit it is a 991.2 turbo S), it appears to make a substantial difference. Anyone know if our cars go into "overboost" when we push the button or exactly what happens?
My understanding is that it raises peak boost by 4 psi. In the higher gears it seems to hold peak power to the 7500 rpm shift. I noticed it the most in the 80-120 mph range.
I noticed no difference between using Launch Control with the sports response button pushed compared to not pushing it. I've only tried it once with the button pushed though.

I am on the same page. No noticeable difference with or without on launch.
To build on this though, after the recent software recalls where my Max G-Force stopped storing, I noticed an issue. I was going to bring it up on Tuesday when I bring it in for new motor mounts (a story for another time). If I push Sport Response button and do a launch right before the timer runs out, 2-3 seconds, when the time does run out the car cuts all power. It almost feels like it goes into limp mode. It feels as if Im just idling down. It does this for what feels like 10 seconds then comes back to normal.
Its sole purpose is to eliminate turbo lag thru 1) holding high rpm and 2) routing unignited pressurized charge air into turbine so turbo stays spooled.
I don’t recall how I obtained the +4 psi of boost info, but I can tell you based on multiple runs from 60-120 mph that the car is much faster in this mode than without it. The difference is far more than turbo spool up time reduction which is already very quick at 5000+ rpm. The power curve is far flatter out to the up shift in this mode than the non-sport response modes in my car.
FYI - manufacturers have a lot of options for what they calibrate in for something like sport response or overboost from car to car if they have not marketed a specific change. One company’s press cars were laughably fast in overboost and held it much longer than it was supposed to. Nobody is supposed to market the power in overboost because it’s duration is too short to be certified per the test procedures.
So, the MT owners just get screwed out of this extra boost?
It would be very hard to implement on a MT.... as one of the first thing it does is insta rev the engine up to 7K+ ... Imagine you're driving around in 5th and you hit the button?
It's just like launch control and other PDK only features, and why PDK is the ultimate choice if speed is king for you.

Screwed out of this extra boost?? Good grief. If Porsche had found a way to put the sport response button on the MT variant, other Rennlisters would have found a way to complain about that too! Or, at least look down from their gear-rowin', pure-drivin'-experience ivory towers on those that used the button. "You're no better than a PDK-paddle-shiftin' phony!" they might say.
Anyways, MT drivers have auto-rev matching. Not exactly push-of-a-button "eXtRa BoOsT," but a pretty-sweet feature that'll have an MT driver passing on the highway real quick-like and feeling like Joe (or Jane) Cool in the process.
In any case: Can't have it all, all the time, know what I'm saying?
