4 way vs 18 way

I got 4 ways for the weight. No regrets.

It just seems like a giant weight difference in a car that does not lend itself easily to giant weight differences. I mean to put it in perspective, the 992 4S, with an entire all-wheel drive system, weighs just 158 pounds more than a 2S. So almost the same difference as going for a few more bladders and joints in two seats? Really? Or take the 991.2 Carrera T... it used lighter rear glass, fabric door pulls, less baffling, lighter wheels, and ultra-thin shell race seats... and managed to shave a grand total of 8-12 lbs. over a stock 991.2 base Carrera.

Here is what was posted in this thread. No actual facts yet. Still looking.

I spend waaay to much time reading weight savings threads in the GT forums lol it has been listed many times how much the weight penalty can be for going full power 18-way seats.
There was an article that I had read a few months back that always stuck into the back of my mind, but I can't seem to find it.
That being said, I wouldn't opt for 4-way seats "just" for the weight savings. It would be for the rear access from both the driver & passenger side. I currently have a preset memory to pull the seat all the way forward and down, but there is NO memory seats for the passenger side... so you have to bend down and electrically move the seat forward. Which I'm not a fan of obviously.
The 992 has added some weight from the last gen. The weight savings is just icing on the cake.
IF there were memory for both sides, I could live with it. I would just rather bend down and slid her forward within a second or two.
I just did some reading and I think you are right - about 30lbs per seat more. In a bit older model 991 (the full power seats are tipping the scale at ~100 lbs) the 4 ways shave about 28-30lbs from that.
That is really ridiculous - while comfortable and I love the 18ways, I would be tempted to go with the 4-way sports + seats. My seats in my McLaren (both) weight less than 1 of the seats in the 992 - gulp!
60 lbs savings is significant, I do not track my 992 (I have the other cars for track days) - but that much weight is crazy, and on a track you would absolutely notice that, if you are experienced and working on lap times.

I appreciate my quotes being pulled from the depths of RL lol
There's so many "which seat should I choose" threads. They should sticky this comment...
4-way pros = lightweight, easy access to back seats, simple functionality, more seat cushion
4-way cons = no memory, no "custom" adjustments, less weight on front axle to offset the rear weight bias, manual adjustment to steering wheel, no auto tilt passenger mirror in reverse
18-way pros = memory driver seat, electric steering wheel adjustment, you can "build your own bucket seat"
18-way cons = more weight (60+lbs total), no memory on passenger side, instills patience when accessing the rear seats lol
Which of these are most important to you? Then make a decision.

One thing mentioned in other threads that I wish I would have known (but may have changed for 2021?), if you go with either of the 4-ways you do not get the automatic tilt of the passenger side mirror when putting the car in reverse.
I have the S+ 4-ways and they are fantastically comfortable, but the lack of an auto tilting mirror to avoid curb rash is a bit of a head scratcher.

I ordered the 18-ways. Now I am on a diet to offset the additional weight.

If you are the only driver, then save your $$$ and get the 4-way. I only adjusted my seat the first time I got in the car and haven't touched it since. Also, keep in mind the 18-ways add additional weight to the car.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the 14-way / 18-way also include electric adjustment of steering column (along with the memory setting). Honestly, this should be standard on a $100k+ car!

The 992 18-ways are superbly comfortable and worth the $$$.

Go sit in them.
The 4 ways feels like you are sitting in the car.
The 18 ways seem a bit floaty as if you are sitting on the car.
Both are comfortable, just sort of depends how you like to feel while in the car.

I will say that your description pushes me towards the 4-ways. I spec'd the 18-ways but lately have been going back and forth. I thought I wanted the memory and electric steering wheel adjustment, and the auto side-view mirror tilt. However, realistically I'll use the overhead view, not the side-view mirror tilt, and once I set my seats I'm basically the only one who will be driving this (same with the steering wheel). I realize there won't be minute adjustment, but I don't think that's a problem for me.

I'm relatively tall (6'1") and always like to put my seat down as low as possible--does the 18-way sit up higher because of the gear underneath?

We do have the same build date (7/17), but my lock date is 7/3 for some reason. Although when I spoke with my SA a couple days ago he said “it could lock any day”.
