@TR772 How did you get the 20% additional for car replacement with USAA? Did you call them directly? I can't find that option when I do an online quote.

Fill in the quote information on the website, there is a drop down that gives you option to get 20% for a small increase in monthly. It's not easy to see, but it's there...

Take a look at RLI. I was quoted $1 m liability umbrella and $1m excess UM/UIM in Los Angeles for $715 a year. Need to have underlying limits of $500,000. But if you like your current primary insurance company and don't want to change, and these limits fit your needs, you could sure do a lot worse / sleep better at night for less than $2 a day.

If you're shopping car insurance, ask the people who will repair your car which company they'd rather deal with.

Your car insurance is coordinated with your liability umbrella policy. Changing carriers on any underlying policy could impact the umbrella.

Compare the surcharge provisions for accidents & violations.

got allstate milewise also. 1.43 a day with 8.3 cents a mile. Considering I'm no longer driving 10k miles a year, this saves me about 65%

Agree with PJSD 100%. It's not the cost of insurance it's the coverage. Had to use my SUM coverage once and learned valuable lesson. Should have had more. Had few hundred thousand and collected on it. Never really understood the nuances of auto policy until I needed it. First thing my attorney asked how much SUM coverage do you have? The other driver who caused the accident admitted 100% fault had minimal state allowed coverage.

Now carry 2M SUM coverage plus Umbrella with one those companies that you mention as reputable. The SUM really protects YOU. Most drivers don't have enough insurance and about 12% drive without insurance. Yes without insurance, if they hit your 911 the SUM kicks in. In the end it's not the rate it's the coverage.

Just checked my policy pay $5700 for 4 cars including 2 Porsche's and 2 BMW's in high cost state. Cannot complain with about the cost based upon the extensive coverage limits.

What a great thread! Thanks to all that made the effort to comment. I will definitely be reviewing my coverage when I get back from vacation. I've been with Allstate for 20 years and have no real complaints. But my agent is a competent fellow. Can't remember the numbers, but paying about $1600 a year in NJ for a 2021 C2S. 61 yrs old, clean driving record.

if youre already with allstate, NJ has Milewise, so may want to check it out and get info.

Bit of warning though, on my my2022 992 the device triggers the alarm if i leave it plugged in when i lock the car. So i have to unplug it whenever i lock it.

My device does not trigger my alarm in any of my 4 cars. I was concerned that the device might reveal the occasional very high speeds that I may wish to try after my break in period is complete. It does NOT. Allstate considers high speed miles as all miles driven in any of my four vehicles that are traveling on a highway at the posted speed limit. 70 mph is no different than 170! I specifically asked this direct question. Hard braking, high speed and night driving "events" merely reduce your rewards and do not affect your premiums or cause any issues with them. The rewards are points that can be applied to the purchase of overpriced items that are being pushed by the various sellers associated with the plan. I remember I got a free magazine once.... I have my 4 motorcycles insured with Dairyland for less than $500 annually combined. Triumph Thruxton 1200 full coverage approx. $120 Harley Road King 1450cc full coverage $120 Sym Wolf Classic 150 is $35 for running around on my property - liability only. Kawasaki 1000 has no comp/collision (too much - too FAST) liability - only $120 250K liability on all bikes and cars. Umbrella Coverage 1Mil $600 yr. thru another outfit takes over after the 250k underlying coverage. Might be RLI, need to check.

This may vary by state. For me in VA high speed is considered anything over 80mph. But i too have not had premiums raised with previous cars even though I don't keep it under 80. But who knows there may be a threshold i just havent crossed yet.

When I first encountered insurance, I had a lot of problems, starting with how to insure my car and then how to get payment from the insurance company, etc. But it is necessary to insure the car and for a large amount, because we drive cheap cars and many have very rare options. If someone has problems with registration of insurance, I can recommend the site with articles on CAR INSURANCE. There is a lot of useful information there.
