To Sunroof or Not To Sunroof, That Is The Question

Reasons not to get a sunroof:
Glass roof, while looking nice and being great for northern climates, in sunny hot climates leads to hotter in-car temps (I hate the pano roof in my A8L for that reason). Car looks nicest with no sunroof IMO, and full Alcantara headliner is awesome. Also, sunroof delete=more money for mods. Sunroof doesn't make car go faster.

One thing to consider, you can only get the roof rack option with one of the sunroof choices. No sunroof, no roof rack. The rack mounts somehow attach in the opened position. I ordered mine without a sunroof for many of the previous mentions. If I were to get another 992, I'd order a metal sunroof; to get the roof rack option for carrying bikes. The configurator was quite new for 992's when I ordered, so this detail was missed. Get what you want that fits what you will do with the car.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and pictures! I officially placed my order today and went with the metal sunroof. Like most things there is no right or wrong answer to the question I posed at the beginning of this thread. In the end my decision was driven by two things, love of listening to the magical sounds a sports car makes and that in a 911 there is no headroom penalty. As far as metal versus glass it is just personal preference for me, I don’t like the two tone roof effect or the light that is let in by the glass. Hopefully I will have the car in time to enjoy the nice cool fall air through a cracked open sunroof on the way home from work...oh wait work is at home guess that will just be a post pandemic dream for now!

This is my first sports car purchase in almost a decade where there is the option for a sun roof. My current spec (Code PM4Q58M9) has the metal sunroof. I know that I don't like the glass one so it would be either the metal or none. Was curious to hear the thoughts of why different people on the forum chose to go with or without. Dealers indicate that it is a must have on the car, especially for resale. I don't particularly like how the car looks with the roof open, but I did like being able to hear more of the car noises with it tilted up on a test drive (versus having to lower the windows and get buffeted by the wind). Please let me know your thoughts as I am really torn on which way to go here and it would obviously free up dollars to either make the build cheaper or to add something else in. Thanks!

For me seeing a big black patch on the roof of the car ruins its whole look. And I don't enjoy the feel of being in a glasshouse when inside the car. All a matter of personal preference. I went for a metal roof. Love my Carrera GT paint all over!

As others have said, suit yourself. The great thing about Porsches is people shop based on specs and will travel for the right car.
From personal experience, I had a no sunroof 991 and it went to a guy who wanted a no sunroof car. Since that NJ/NY car, I moved to FL during the pandemic and my last 991 and 992s have been cabs because why not. For ultimate resale I would have gone with a GT3 manual with buckets but that's not the way I wanted to use the car driving home in the evening from dinner with the roof down.
The only car in my mind that should not have a sunroof is the T all the rest is up to you.

oof the metal sunroof is awful. my SA got it on his car and hates it and ive seen a couple in person and they just look janky. shouldve went with glass as it looks so much nicer and eliminates that coffin feel of a car with no sunroof.
