To Sunroof or Not To Sunroof, That Is The Question
#31
Have the steel sunroof in my Carrera T. Personally I enjoy the open air driving in my sports car. Sounds great on a nice summer night with the roof open and the sports exhaust switched on.

but this question is like “what color interior should I get?” Can’t go wrong. Go do you.

My 991 was a 991.1 GTS coupe. It had lighter forged center-lock wheels, but not the significantly lighter carbon ceramic brakes. I believe that if you really need the lightest non-GT 992 for track-day lap times, wait for the 992 GTS, and get it with forged CL wheels, PCCBs, 4-way sport seats-plus, light weight glass, and a carbon fiber roof. Of course, many GT3 guys change out the PCCBs because of the extreme expense. So those guys are willing to add un-sprung weight in order to offset expenses. I just hope each of us gets what we want when ordering/buying one of these wonderful cars.[/QUOTE]
Not sure you need to wait. I just ordered my 2021 with lightweight glass, CF roof, 4 way sport seats. Did not order PCCBs and no CL wheels. Both have advantages and disadvantages. After market wheels will be lighter than a Porsche wheel and for DD and track use, I prefer Iron. There are other ways to lose weight such as Recaro's. The GTS will have more power though.

Sunroof, no.
Unnecessary weight, adds mechanical complexity, leaks and drainage problems and maybe less structural rigidity.
I avoid them if I can. Ordered my '19 911 without one, but spent money on a Sport Package. As to resale? I've read of those who want them and those who don't.
Dealer ordered cars invariable have them, it pumps up the profit margin.
On resale, some options just don't add value, to me a sunroof is one.
Your choice.

I don't even know how many cars I've had over the last 30 or so years, but almost all of them have had sunroofs and none of them have ever leaked. I currently have a Ford Raptor with a huge panoramic sunroof that opens and I parked it outside all winter long in Alaska and it has never once leaked. My only issue with vehicles leaking have been 911 cabriolets that drip water inside when I go through the touchless carwash.
My only issue with the sunroof on my 992 is that I always seem to hit the button the wrong way to open it. It feels to me like you should pull back on the button to open the roof, but instead it works like a window where you push down on it to roll it down and pull back on it to close it again.

I've had a 911 with the glass sunroof (never used it), and my current 911 does not have a sunroof. The interior feels about the same to me - I suppose perhaps maybe it let in some extra light but not enough to really make a huge difference - probably because it's usually cloudy where I live. Since I'll never use it, it's just something that can break, and I'm NOT going to spec my car how the next owner might like it so, just like the current one, I ordered my pending 992 with option code ZAC: No sunroof.
