Maybe they close them for lower drag?

Fuel efficiency?
Put it in sport on the highway and see if your oil temps drop.

I always drive in sport or sport plus.

Curious though... what does that do to the air vents when you switch from Normal to Sport?

That's my understanding as to why.

Not anymore that driving fast enough to raise the rear spoiler so the engine cools faster

Yangpei, we are experiencing the same issue as you with 3 month old 992...very long warm up before it kicks down. I'm also concerned that if I make two or three stops throughout the day, maybe 1/2 hour or 45 minutes out of the car - it again ramps up after start up as if its the first start of the day. This happened yesterday even with mild temps in the 50's. My 19 Cayenne warms up in much less time and rarely idles up during the day once I've reached operating temps. I'll check in with the service department in the next couple of days.

Modern car should not idle until warm. The extra fuel used in order to warm up the cats washes out the cylinders

as others said, start and drive. For fast warm up, leave in Normal mode and drive in 2nd gear at 2500 rpm while leaving your neighborhood

Can't fix normal. The start up routine is designed to get the cats headed to operating temps quickly.

It seems like I'm sitting longer than I recall in other cars before being able to drive. It may be just because the car is new and not broken in yet. Just wondering.
I don't understand why you would sit and wait.... start it, drive it, once the oil is warm, drive spirited. I have done 1200 miles in 30 days (versus the 70 you did), and no issues.

+1. Better for the environment, better for the engine, better gas mileage, faster warmup (means entering the fun zone quicker).
