Default Long warm-up time

I've had my 992 for about a month and haven't driven it a lot yet (about 70 miles total). But, I noticed that it seems to take significantly longer to warm up than my other cars (both current and past). After starting, the 992 often takes 1 1/2 - 2 minutes before the idle speed drops down to 750-800 rpm (even at fairly warm ambient temps around 80 degrees F). It seems like I'm sitting longer than I recall in other cars before being able to drive. It may be just because the car is new and not broken in yet. Just wondering.

Don't do that. Start it up and drive. Just don't hammer it until it warms up (I like to wait til oil temp is ~160-180 deg).

Even after a restart it still wants to fast idle for a while - I think Porsche's taking no chances the converters aren't up to temp (killing short trip fuel mileage in the process)!

I experience very fast warm up. I start driving but hold acceleration down until temp gets to about 150 degrees then switch to sport mode.

Coolant warms up fast.
Oil warms up slow. There's a lot of it.
Start. Drive. Keep below 4K rpm. Oil hits 180. MC Hammer time.

The thing I find most interesting about this car, and unique to other car's I've had is that the engine temp at idle (once the car has reached operating temp that is) is lower than the temp at cruise on the freeway.. I average 192-198 sitting in stop and go traffic, or driving around town, but I average 220-225 on the highway..

Maybe since the front shutters are closed at highway speeds.

thats my theory too... honestly, I hate it when car engine temps skyrocket in traffic.. gives me anxiety.

I've been a little concerned about that since I found out the speeds at which the shutters close, but I guess that's a trade off to protect the radiators from road debris.

Thanks for heads up as it's good to know. I'm curious as to what others are seeing that DON'T have the closing shutters (i.e., sports front fascia)?

What are the speeds again? I remember seeing a YouTube video (I think) that showed this (plus a few other items) but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks.

That's my question too.... the guys who paid a significant premium not get rid of the shutters... how does their radiators not take more damage? I know even with the shutters on mine and these wonderful northern California roads.. I've got quite a few chips already into the radiators with just 5500 miles.

Me too, I hate it. And they all do this; 911’s I mean, since at least the ‘80’s.

I tell myself these engine are producing 5-8HP in traffic, so even though the overall temperature seems high, the internal temps where it counts the most (rings, pistons, cylinders, heads) are not very hot.
