I’m interested in people’s experience with this as well. I’m considering only because I may do a bit of traveling in this car and a quieter cabin on long drives would be nice. Around town and regular driving, road noise doesn’t bother me at all, and I want to hear the engine.

 

Also. Is this the same glass as available option in Panamera? In the the Panamera it is listed as ‘thermally insulated’, as well as noise insulated. The description mentions that it has UV protection and aids in reducing interior temperature. The 992 description mentions weight savings and noise, but no mention of UV protection. Are they using two different glasses here, or just different (marketing targeted) descriptions?

 

Nothing from the Pana thread, all crickets. I wouldn’t want to reduce engine or exhaust note, but it would be great to isolate droning highway noise from tires, trucks, etc. Since this is a laminate, I wonder if you can add this aftermarket like tinting film?

 

The two properties I am interested in are the weight savings and road noise reduction. For me this is a win-win. Sure, it will cost more to replace it but the benefits are why I am paying more for it anyway. I doubt you can do this aftermarket as the laminate changes the properties of the glass so frequencies are attenuated. I think it is a bargain as just replacing the windshield would cost more than this option.

 

Here is what I received from the Panathread "I have it on the '14 4S I bought a couple of months ago and I have to say I am impressed with it. The car is very quiet inside, and when you are on the freeway next to a big rig, you can really tell it's cutting some of the noise. I think it also has heat reflective layers in it, and if you add ceramic tint (and felt on the inside), you get a car that just doesn't heat up in the summer when parked in the sun the way most cars do. This is a great feature in Texas."

I just learned from my SA that I cannot get it. My build is a 2020 and they are not migrating any of the options backwards. Either I need to stick with the 2020 or cancel and reorder.

 

Isn't the objective of PSE to have better sound, and the Noise Cancelling glass, to obstruct sound? Seems that this is a contradiction...

 

A lot of the engine noise is transferred inside the car. With the lightweight glass, you would hear the engine noise and less road noise.

 

Love the idea, both for some minor weight savings as well as the noise reduction, but wonder how much of each there would be. Would be great to get objective numbers.
