Hey dear community,
I wanted to start one last attempt to solve my backseat/above Engine area rattle.
I know there has been another tread, but its been mainly about seatbuckles and belts.
So here is the problem:
Whenever I drive my car and it was sitting for a day or two, speaking completely cold.
There is a high frequency rattle from the backseat, or above Engine roof (cabriolet) area.
The rattle isnt coming from the firewall, seatbuckles or seats. I checked them all and eliminated those noises.
The interesting thing is, once the oil temp is warm and the car was shut down, even for 2-3 mins.
The rattle is completely gone. I tested this on the same road in my neigbourdhoof for 1 hr.
Does anybody has more ideas, what this could be? Is it maybe coming from the Engine and not the Interiour?
My local Porsche dealer doesnt have a solve.
Best regards from Germany and stay healthy everybody.
Chris
UPDATE: took of firewall and managed to make a video of the rattle
Fold down the rear seats. Place padding between the two panels closest to the seat belts. Some have recommended eyeglass cloth. Dealers will put in some kind of foam.

So, it is effected by engine temperature, which would potentially mean a slightly loose bolt that tightens up as the engine compartment comes to temp. Presume the noise does not vary with engine RPMs?

Thanks for your reply, funny thing tho, even when oil temp is at max, the rattle stays. UNTIL you shut of the engine once and restart the rattle is gone.
Noise becomes a little more high frequence when higher RPM.
Hey folks, managed to take of firewall and made a video, of the rattle. Very clear to hear when driving.
Rattle still dissappears after oil temp is around 103degrees celcius and around 60min of drive.
ANY ideas? Thanks
I have driven myself nuts over the years trying to find rattles and buzzes while driving. I'd suggest you find someone to drive you around while you are back there so you can use your ears to zone in on it and, hopefully, your hands to confirm it. Or you drive and get someone limber with good ears to sit back there and find it. I recently had my wife play rattle detective in my 944 while I drove around and she found the two most annoying ones in 5 minutes -- and neither where particularly close to where I thought.
The dealer should be willing to do that too, since it's repeatable enough to make a video about... I had a rattle in my 991TTS and the dealer actually sent the tech to my house because it wouldn't make noise on their roads, even though it squeaked all the time on the bumpy streets of my neighborhood. The tech was able to find the loudest ones while I drove (side panels above rear seats). Once he fixed those, the next loudest rattles became evident, but hey progress is progress...
Car is back at the dealer,
hard to figure out for them where the rattle comes from since is maximum present for about 50min (till oil temp is up).
Car has been at dealer for 3 days now.

How do you open the firewall? Do you just pull hard?
Thanks
