Default 2021 Porsche 911

I called my local dealer today to discuss ordering a base 2021 911. They told me they only have one allocation for a 2021 base 911. Are 911's in short supply?

I wonder if they’d much rather talk to you about something more near-term...

Global pandemic, mass layoffs and furloughs, minimal communication from Porsche HQ... on top of a closed factory. One allocation sounds about right given the circumstances. I think they 2021 production is also delayed until Nov/Dec this year anyways per another thread here.

Was it still configurable? What was the expected date of delivery?

I put in an order on Feb 24 with an expected mid-July delivery (could have gotten late May but timing for me was best in July). Anyway, with the current issues the build has been pushed 2 months. Currently shows early-June production and a mid-Sept delivery. Wondering if/when I could just switch to a 2021 model since it will be better for resale a few years from now. Would rather have a newer year, even if there are no changes.

Doesn't seem like it with Hendrick and Foreign Cars Italia both having several base 911's showing in their inventory.

They're basically setting you up to pay substantially more for that 2021 than you would for a 2020. Find a 2020 in inventory close to your spec and get yourself a deal. The savings will more than offset the depreciation difference between a 2021 and 2020.

I suspect a dealer that says he has a 2021 911 allocation is probably full of it. That said, there is a dealer on the forum who could likely tell us definitively whether Porsche is allocating '21 911s.

Just talked to my dealership and got word that 2021 builds are starting in late-Aug for early Q1 deliveries. Would be good to see if another dealer could verify.

If that's true I would rather keep my current 2020 build, take delivery in Sept, and drive my car for 4+ months rather than waiting on a 2021.

...plus it will be a rare 911 50 years from now.

If it matters, I'd make sure of the presence or absence of the infamous particulate filter. Most wont care.

porsche is currently using some advanced metrics to reallocate their own production timelines, as someone said, dealers much more incentivized to do deals now.

dealers also dealer trade- I am acquiring cars from dealers and trading cars / allocations for all kinds of stuff- so if you KNOW you want XYZ car and it does not exist yet, friendly stores can get you a build slot by trading away inventory etc.

Yes, the 2020s will be the lowest volume modern 911.

My 2020 C2S cab with a manual should be an even rarer sub-model. I doubt I will be consigning it to an Amelia Island or Monterey auction for a boatload of cash someday, however!

Any ideas when the pricing for the 21 models will be finalized? I talked to a couple of dealers and decided to pass on the 20 as time horizon for a delivery appeared to be at the end of the calendar year. With that late of a delivery, it is my preference to pick up on the next model year.
