Default Laser jammers and the 992

Trying to prep for my 4500 mile drive in May/June. I bought a Uniden R7 but have been considering adding a laser jammer system to the mix. Has anyone installed one on our 992 yet? If so what system did you use and how difficult was the install?

I had in my 991, no big deal to install.
I don't own one anymore bc IL outlaws jamming and I don't see the point in laser detection without jamming.
Check the states you'll be driving to see if it's even worth it, if you care about that.

The combination of Waze and the R7 go a long way. Given that there are so many states that ban laser jamming now, I am not bothering with such a set up on the 992. If you're doing long multi-state drives, I agree with the above response in that it really may not be worth it. I'd rather not have the "was your jammer on or off?" conversation with an officer where these devices are now banned.

I did a 5 state, 1800+ mile weekend tour with my C4S in January. We're planning a run up from Pennsylvania to Canada in Spring followed by a coast to coast blitz in summer. It's a great long distance machine!

I have not heard of one person getting a laser jamming ticket. They are parking sensors and a cop in a court of law is going to have to prove you were jamming his laser, good luck with that when they are even sold as parking sensors. Chances are if he thinks you were jamming then he will get you for something else like tinted windows or no front plate or he will tell you he got you on radar or “paced” you.

I say go for it if you want the piece of mind. End of the day it isn’t a good financial decision if you think of it that way. A speeding ticket or several tickets in other states will be far less costly then doing laser. Most of those tickets you pay the fine and they will never go on your record. Check to see if that is the case for your state reciprocating with the states you are visiting.

BTW I have ALP and love the system installed in my 991 GT3.

I thought most states share driving infractions with one's home state, no?

They most certainly do not, unless you manage to get charged with a felony or misdemeanor— a very real proposition in Virginia, because they’ve got strict speeding laws out of sync with the rest of the country. You can do jail time in Virginia for getting cited in the teens over the posted limit.

Thats why I said check. Kentucky does not. You can get all the tickets you want out of state, just pay them and nothing shows on your KY record.

Yes, you are referring to the Communist Commonwealth of Virginia .. are you not? I live in TN and TN and VA do NOT share information BUT in TN if the officer does NOT appear in court the case is dismissed. In the CCoV, the judge can keep rescheduling the court date until the officer does show! That alone kept me from fighting the ticket which I'm sure is what they count on. Absolutely love TN, and glad my sister and parents no longer live in VA.

Re: WAZE app, it works extremely well IF you're in a heavily traveled area and there a fair number of fellow Waze users around you (especially ahead of you). Not as effective otherwise; I know because I live in a more rural area of TN where there are very few Waze drivers but once on the Interstate Highways (like you will be) I am much better off so keep that in mind as well.

I look forward to hearing about your trip and seeing photos as well.

It's not only Virginia that will send you to jail.
Funny thing happened to me regarding laser. In 6 years in Illinois I've never had a laser scare, until this Saturday. I think I got a bounced laser as there were a couple of cars ahead of me and no direct view to the cop. Highway was crowded, no Waze users accused police. Driving on the way back, same cop stopped a car, still nothing on waze.
You can find yourself in a misdemeanor class A or B easily. I don't know if people have been sent to jail here, but lots of people had to spend a bundle finding the "proper" lawyers.

Then you're gold. It's not difficult to install and completely worth it if legal, IMO

I don’t want someone messing with the wiring in my 992 and adding aftermarket stuff, otherwise I’d get a Escort max 360 Ci. I had one in my 2013 Carrera and it was pretty good. It was already installed when I bought the car CPO. Today, I just take my chances with help from Waze. I have it on decent authority that Nick Murray’s issues with his lemon lawed 911s was the result of him screwing with the wiring when installing all his crap.
