Getawayer review. He's back

Most journalist evaluations seem to be on the S with sport package. After doing some comparisons, I will probably take a S without SPASM. The consensus though on this forum is that the appearance is superior with SPASM. I have to test drive an S without SPASM - it might be more comfortable - daily driver.

I’d love to see pics of your S without SPASM. Are they on some thread in the forum? What did you think of comfort and tire noise compared to the S with SPASM?

Spasm (same tires) back to back that Pasm alone is more comfortable and potentially a little quieter (although the noise could be attributed to various factors and tires will be the most significant).
The Pasm doesn't feel as sporty, though, so there is a definite tradeoff. Pretty much just what you'd expect.

Guido Komp made similar comments when he reviewed the 991.2 GTS. Clearly, he is not a fan of the turbo sixes. I found some his observations and comments to be spot on. The turbo six in my 991.2 4S does build power in a linear way (as noted in the review) but is a little laggy below 3k rpms and doesn't produce the same drama at high rpms as the 3.4 L in my previous car. There seems no point taking it to redline. The heart of a sports car is indeed the engine and when there is no drama, is it still fun to drive? There is the speed but it is hard to exploit in any meaningful way on public roads as mentioned in the review. The new 992 is even faster of course. Guido mentions how, with the NA sixes, engine noise would fill the cabin. Now, I find that tire roar fills the cabin and the engine is in the background regardless of the pops and crackles. Of course the GT3 sounds wonderful but it is out of reach for many including me even if an allocation was available.

Will be interesting to see if the 4.0 NA engines in the GT4, Spyder and 718 GTS generate an increase of sales or if after the purists buy theirs sales become stagnant. I'm definitely leaning that way simply because of their engines. 2019 911 sales are down slightly compared to 2018 so no matter what you think of the 992 buyers appear to be cautious, at least so far. Of course 2020 could change that as more 992 models are made. The only Porsche with a notable year over year increase is the Cayenne which is probably because its gross weight exceeds 6,000 lbs and self employed folks are buying to get the section 179 $25,000 deduction.
