Are you connecting directly to the battery with both leads? That is not recommended due to risk of explosion.

My understanding is for the Lithium battery it IS OK.

My Porsche Official Dealer Technical Service says in writing that it is OK to connect the charger directly to the Lithium battery (says the electronics controlling the battery are on the battery, so you miss/risk nothing by not connecting the negative to the "car mass post".

I bought a Tesla for my daily driver car. I used to keep my 911 on a trickle charger at all times when not in use—most of the time. I can charge the Tesla on 120 volt where I plug in the trickle charger. I do this intermittently. Is there a problem from disconnecting and reconnecting the trickle charger to the Porsche battery? thanks.

Hello,

I think I've seen similar batteries to mine in the post, but Im trying to figure out if it's Li-on or not? can someone help me identify my type of battery?

Also, Im having a tough time getting the trickle charge(from Porsche) to work, even following the directions supplied.

Your battery pictured is a STANDARD AGM type ( not Lithium )

based on the battery porsche # printed on it, it AGM. Your Porsche brand pro charger may not work at all with AGM.

This is where I put mine. That dip area allows for good hood clearance.

The thing that I'm a little nervous about is to connect the negative directly to the negative terminal since the manual tells you not to put the negative direct to the battery when jump starting.

I'm wondering what you guys think of putting the negative of the trickle charger instead to the bolt that I circled below. If you follow that connection, it leads up to the negative. Has anyone been worried about this?

Ideally, the negative terminal of the charger (as with jump-start) should be connected to chassis so you do not "bypass" the BMS integrated into the negative terminal connection. I do not believe you can do damage with a trickle charger but may damage the BMS if connecting a battery for jump start directly to battery terminals.

My dealer recommended against attaching the charger to the same negative post the battery uses. They recommended using a nearby bolt for the ground. I used this one and it works well. For jump starting, they recommend the same bolt on the other side of the engine. I think in fear of sparking so close to the battery. That post is too far for a trickle charger though.

This is the charger I have. My battery is also AGM, not lithium.

That's perfect thanks......any reason why you didn't choose the bolt circled above in my post?

That's the one my dealer recommended against using.
