The 964 C4 weighed ~3200 lb I believe.

I believe the 993 Turbo was about 3300 lb from the factory.

Dropping the weight of a modern 911 down to sub 3000lb would be tremendously difficult, particularly in Turbo guise. As others have mentioned - all the regulations for pedestrian safety and impact have made that much harder to do.

I think the big issue with modern 911s, if there is one, is physical size. The wheelbase of an air-cooled car is tiny and the car itself is hardly bigger than a Miata. It *feels* small, which is what's missing in modern cars.
I agree with this. My 997 gt3 weights 3200 with a full take of gas and I have made considerable changes to drop the weight.....

Does anyone have a prediction when PTS will open up for Turbo? Is it gonna be at the same time as Carreras?

My GT3 and 73 911 have power-to-weight ratios in the same ballpark, but the driving experience couldn't be more different.
I'm sure the driving experience is very, very different. Which of your Porsches is faster around a track? Or do they vary depending on the track?

The GT3 is faster, but I've run with the newest Cup2 and MaxxRace2 tires on it and the old design (but still being made) Toyo RA-1 on the 73. I love the RA-1 for its very friendly behavior at (and over) the limit and long life, but it's not nearly as sticky as the GT3's tires. Since 15" tires are cheap, I'll try some stickier rubber sometime on the 73 and see if I can challenge the GT3 on my technical local track. Maybe laptime won't quite get there, but I do enjoy driving it more.

I put an Elise I used for instructing back in 200 on a diet (lexan windows, carbon fibre rear clam, light weight wheels and rotors, stripped out interior, lighter exhaust, intake and etc.) and had a race prepped engine hitting about 240 hp. I was about at the same power to weight ratio and ran full slicks or Hosiers. This was back in 2006-2010 when I had it. I could reel Z06s, GT3s and etc. in on the twisties, but they would pull hard away from me in the straights. That car also hit a wall at about 125 mph due to downforce. A 991.2 GT3 would definitely eat my old Elise's lunch all day long on any track even with the same power to weight ratio.

yep...and adding lightness is damn expensive in a modern amenity loaded car.
