Anyone have any experience with this “California Duster”? Another Porsche owner just recommended it. Worried it’ll scratch the car.

I completely agree! Just use some nice microfiber cloths which can be washed.

Don't use one. If there is dust on your car, that is not an issue. Wait until it gets dirty and do a full wash. If you had to remove dust every once in a while and your car was very clean, then a detail spray and microfiber.

California Duster is perfectly fine for the interior dust, but I wouldn't use it outside of that.
Never use microfiber rags by themselves. Use them with a detailer spray.

It is fine for dust. I use one on my Mclarens. But NOT for dirt. If your car is dirty - wash it. If you washed it and it has been sitting in the garage for a week or so gathering dust, then I think it works well.

I bought one long ago and could not shake the idea that it was scratching the paint on my M3. For sure it did the job but honestly if you follow a good car cleaning regimen as per the detailing forum experts (I am not one) you should not need one of these. "For me" the juice is just not worth the squeeze.

Agreed. Used them for 20 years as described here. No scratches or swirls — the thick fibers lift dust away from the clear coat.

I would never use one for anything other than removing a fine coat of surface dust. They’re not designed for heavier cleaning (that’s why they’re called the California Car DUSTER). They will scratch paint if used improperly.

Same here--used for LIGHT dusting only they do a pretty good job.

I have one and it works well for a car that is garage kept and clean but dusty. Anything more and use a detail spray or waterless wash (if not very dirty or matte paint), a good ole water bath!

Had one years ago and learned my lesson...left a bunch of marks on my black C5 back in the day.

Use it 3-4x/D during pollen season here in Atlanta. Never seen anything like it until we moved down here.

This is the way I have used it for 14 years on Porsche cars. I also hand wash when car is dirty and apply instant detailer after washing. I have a 2012 911 (991) with 20,000 mi and the finish looks and feels just like the new 992 in garage next to it. I also purchase a new California Duster each year. Have experienced no marking on my cars from light duster use.

I carry a mini California Duster for wiping down the interior dash and console in between washings. Would never use a duster on the outside paint. To much of a possibility for scratching.
