Why would anyone want to buy a 992?

It seems to be a mixture of old and new from many generations. I think it's the single best gauge in the cluster hands down and I smile every time I see it. Now, some of the other
gauges on the periphery of the dash have me scratching my head a bit.

+1 I love the tach. The whole interior is such a departure from previous 911 but the tach brings me back to the 964 although it doesn't quite copy any specific old school tach.

In the older cars you could manually rotate the tach so that redline was at the 12:00 position. It'd be cool if that was an option still :-)

So watching just about every review of the new 992 interior there are 2 consistent complains. First is the dinky shifter, well wait for the manuals and that problem disappears. Secondly that fact that you cant see all 5 dials due to the steering wheel design. This may be a legitimate criticism however please look at our beloved 993 view of the dials through the wheel. This is not a problem for me.
and tell me there much of a real problem with the 992.

Dash gauges has been done to death - either you are fine with it or you are not. Many with experience in air cooled 911’s recognize this is not a new issue.
As for gear selector - ie shaver - the only time it’s used is to put car in drive / reverse. It’s really very limited and tho small , it feels pretty solid in hand or in fingers as case may be. It’s not as beefy as 991 PDK gear selector but remember - all gear shifts are coming from paddles. Not the shaver !

Maybe it will grow on me...I do like some of the digital layouts though and they will probably age quite well.

$185k for a C2S? Ha... that's insanity. Bet that buyer will enjoy that $120k depreciation in 2 years when he goes to trade. Probably won't care though if he's buying a brand new one at that price.
But honestly, I would rather say the money and buy a 2020 R8 (non-performance). I see the C2S as a $130k car and not more, no matter the options. Sigh. Not faulting Porsche here -- they should charge what they can get.

My head will perk up like a prairie dog when 992 TTS appears, or GT3. Then we'll see how the tach looks with a nice turbo logo on it.

how do you come up with over charging? Even with the biggest margins in the auto industry they probably net 12-15% profit per car after all costs... Have you seen labor rates and laws in Germany? Have you looked at the quality of the build materials that go into a 911 vs a car for $60-70k?

The profit margin on the 992 is 47%. Including the above mentioned labour rates etc. The highest profit margin of any 911 (non GT) ever built.

The reality is the 992 is most often compared to $150-200k cars and often favorably. If you can build a car that's absolutely amazing and utterly unique, you don't charge less because it cost you less to build. You charge what people will pay.
Also what's the profit margin on the Taycan? Last I heard they were losing tens of thousands per car. How do you think they're funding this excursion into electric vehicles? It's not as simple as "a business is making a 47% profit margin so they must be overcharging."
