+1 I love the tach. The whole interior is such a departure from previous 911 but the tach brings me back to the 964 although it doesn't quite copy any specific old school tach.
It seems to be a mixture of old and new from many generations. I think it's the single best gauge in the cluster hands down and I smile every time I see it. Now, some of the other
gauges on the periphery of the dash have me scratching my head a bit.

+2.

In the older cars you could manually rotate the tach so that redline was at the 12:00 position. It'd be cool if that was an option still :-)

+4 I think the tach and gauges looks awesome. People will always find fault. I visited the PEC again Saturday and fell in love all over again with the car.

So watching just about every review of the new 992 interior there are 2 consistent complains. First is the dinky shifter, well wait for the manuals and that problem disappears. Secondly that fact that you cant see all 5 dials due to the steering wheel design. This may be a legitimate criticism however please look at our beloved 993 view of the dials through the wheel. This is not a problem for me.

and tell me there much of a real problem with the 992.

Dash gauges has been done to death - either you are fine with it or you are not. Many with experience in air cooled 911’s recognize this is not a new issue.
As for gear selector - ie shaver - the only time it’s used is to put car in drive / reverse. It’s really very limited and tho small , it feels pretty solid in hand or in fingers as case may be. It’s not as beefy as 991 PDK gear selector but remember - all gear shifts are coming from paddles. Not the shaver !

This horse continues to be beat to death lol but if you received the coffee table book from Porsche on the new 911 with the Gerry Judah sculpture. They match both dashes with fold out pages in the book itself.. so Porsche KNEW what they were doing. And for all those that believe it was a design flaw.. it’s not. Because Porsche KNOWS what they’re doing lol

Agree to disagree, the 992 tach looks nothing at all like previous old school 911 tachs, the font is all different and wrong.

Maybe it will grow on me...I do like some of the digital layouts though and they will probably age quite well.

Let's be honest guys the PDK nubbin shaver design sucks and they need to fix it.

But honestly, I would rather say the money and buy a 2020 R8 (non-performance). I see the C2S as a $130k car and not more, no matter the options. Sigh. Not faulting Porsche here -- they should charge what they can get.
The R8 was ruined for me long ago as I knew a complete dou*hebag who had one. Can't ever buy one. Then I met a few other dou*hebags that also had R8s. Unfortunate. I don't like the way it looks anyway. Subjective.

My head will perk up like a prairie dog when 992 TTS appears, or GT3. Then we'll see how the tach looks with a nice turbo logo on it.

The profit margin on the 992 is 47%. Including the above mentioned labour rates etc. The highest profit margin of any 911 (non GT) ever built.

The 992 being profitable doesn't mean they're overcharging.

The reality is the 992 is most often compared to $150-200k cars and often favorably. If you can build a car that's absolutely amazing and utterly unique, you don't charge less because it cost you less to build. You charge what people will pay.

Also what's the profit margin on the Taycan? Last I heard they were losing tens of thousands per car. How do you think they're funding this excursion into electric vehicles? It's not as simple as "a business is making a 47% profit margin so they must be overcharging."
