I think perceived value equates to feelings, but I am not positive.

Its a common term and concept used in sales occupations. We buy porsches because our perceived value of them exceed the cost or price of the car. If our perceived value did not exceed the cost of the vehicle, then most likely we would never be buyers. Perceived value is volatile and can change on the spur of the moment from minute to minute. What appears to be $100,000 in value to one person could appear to be $20,000 in someone else's eyes.

I think part of the reason teenagers aren’t as impressed by high end sports cars is because they see them all of the time on Instagram and YouTube. When you see 30 (insert any sports car) a day on your phone, or every weekend at cars and coffee, they don’t appear as special. I would maybe see 1 or 2 Porsche’s a week and maybe a Ferrari or Lamborghini twice a year on the road and would have to wait each month for the next issue of Road and Track or Car and Driver to see photos of those cars.
As for the built not bought mentality for performance cars. It’s nothing new. I had the same mentality when I was a teenager wonder why someone would spend so much money on a sports car when you can buy a less expensive one and modify it to get the same or higher level of performance. Once you see how much better built a Porsche or M car is built vs you’re Nissan or Honda, you understand why. Plus you also don’t have to deal with fixing your car all the time because you’ve doubled the horsepower or can now pull over 1g around a corner and you break something not designed for that.

exactly. enhancing one part of the car means that you have to enhance every other vital component piece which is always going to cost a whole lot. better to go ahead and just get a used porsche

If you are an idiot with nothing else to be self-confident about, other than your money or credit scores, yes. Quite the opposite for me, I love my 911 but I rarely drive it to my work because as an onco-biologist at an academic setting, I don’t boast that I drive a Porsche to hurt my social status.

If I had known I could have participated in this thread I would have bought my Porsche sooner.

Pay no attention to the temporal elements of that comment.
