"better" model being the S over the base is subjective, not objective fact

I am at least one who prefers the base engine, at least in 991.2 form with less boost and found it to be a more enjoyable motor for the street (have not driven 992 and just assume the same). And would go for PCCB + base over S and non-PCCB in a vacuum

Just goes to show the beauty of Porsche offering nearly infinite ways to configure your dream 911, I wouldn't settle

I would certainly go with PCCBs again. As a keeper of cars, it's worth it to me. With nearly 120,000 miles on my PCCB-equipped 911S I'm still on the factory installed pads.

Thanks for all the replies and opinions.
I decided PCCBs are way too pricey, not necessary and potentially very costly for road use and a bad idea for hard track use. The S model is really more than I want to spend and I'm not sure I need the extra power, and the base car and wheels look good enough with the stock brakes.
So I'm doing what any rational 911 buyer would do - adding PCCB to my base car anyway! (I'll post pic in a few months)

Ha, you had me convinced of the opposite at first! If you have any questions as to what other parts you need you can PM me or consult the thread I created, which has the parts list. By the way, the pic posted by Airbus Raider is the older style PCCBs, which I also have, and here is an explanation of the difference. As per my Indy there is nothing wrong with the old way so don't let that deter you and I have zero noise from mine:

Way to go.

There is absolutely no reason not to have these on a car, regardless of model and spec. Anyone who says or counsels you differently is a fraud. Pluses and minuses to everything in the universe. You'll love them.

I completed the Porsche Driving Experience, in Atlanta, last Friday. My instructor said only buy PCCB if you anticipate regular on track driving.

Are you gonna track it?
If no then skip PCCB.

I have a base with PCCB’s. I added them the last week before my order locked. I am so glad I did that. I only paid for them once and I get to use them every time I drive it, look at them every time I see the car, and hear friends talk about how great they look and felt when they drove the car. Best option I got on my somewhat highly optioned base. I don’t plan to track my car and do plan to keep it for a very long time.

Generally its the complete opposite. Are you going to track it? If yes, then stick with the steel brakes as they do a fantastic job of slowing the car and are a considerably less expensive consumable item for the track enthusiast. If no, then get the ceramics for the looks/prestige/cleanliness and you will likely never have to replace them on a street driven car.

Whether you track or not should not be part of the decision tree in whether PCCBs are an option that one should spec on their 911.

The Gen V PCCBs are nothing like the Gen III PCCBs found on the 997 911s, which is what almost everyone basis their "don't use PCCBs on the track because they will disintegrate -- both the rotors and your pocket book" mantra. Beginning with the Gen IV PCCBs on the 991 911s, they have generally very robust and nothing like the prior generations of PCCBs. Just ask the folks at Porsche who track the 918 (which come standard with the Gen IV PCCBs) or my friend who went through more engines (3) than PCCB rotors (1) on his 991.1 GT3 after more than 6k track miles, in addition to about 10k regular miles.

The Gen V PCCBs on the 992 are even better.

So the decision to spec or not spec PCCBs on a 911 should really come down to budget and driving experience (be it on track, road, or somewhere in-between). If you have the budget, and enjoy the reduced unsprung weight, get the PCCBs. If you answer "no" to either of those parameters, skip them.

I'd argue the exact opposite, as would most every experienced Porsche track day rat.
