Default Winter Tire Failure by Porsche

For those of us u able to locate winter tires, this, to me, represents a failure by the people at Porsche to take care of their customers. I have owned various C4 Porsche 911 cars; starting with the first one in 1989. Living in the northeast I use my car on a daily basis and need winter tires for my awd 911. Many of us who buy awd 911 cars depend upon winter tires to drive in the cold and slippery winter. I am amazed that Porsche hasn’t secured suitable winter tires from at least one manufacturer who we can buy tires from. Even if you buy the winter wheel tire combo from Porsche the expense is crazy and the delivery is questionable. They should have gone, as a corporation, to pirrelli or Michelin and made sure that they made sufficient tires for their customers who paid 140 k plus for their 992 C4s cars. Porsche, I am disappointed in your abandoning your customers. An AWD car without winter tires. Great

Could not agree more. I’m holding off on the 992 C4 until I have confidence I can get a winter set up. This was an issue, to a lesser degree, when I took delivery of my M5C in December.... tire rack finally scrambled and came through. Not sure who at Porsche is listening but this is a big issue.

Why is the delivery questionable? I don’t get it. If there are good 20” winter tires for 991 they should be there for 992. Winter tires are typically less width and/or diameter.

Are you saying there isn’t a winter tire available per the owners manual size?

^ The rear wheels are 21" on the 992. I believe the tire size is 295/35r21. Not exactly something you'll find at the local Costco or Walmart. Or anywhere else currently for that matter.

New 21" with either 295 or 305 are the issue. Seems to me Porsche bought all the production as you can easily find winter wheel sets. That stops you from saving money using the same wheels. If you go 19/20, you'll need a new set. Coincidentally all the running 992s are using 20/21, as the base model is not out yet (at least US).

The front tires size are a carryover from the 991. Pirellis and Michelins are unobtanium. ROW apparently have continentals as added option.

My stealership quoted me 7k (plus taxes) for a winter set of 20/21 Carrera classics on Alpin5. I laughed.

Interestingly, this is what Lamborghini took care of FLAWLESSLY with their Urus and had available winters right off the bat (granted they are bespoke and expensive but available still)...so this is pretty embarrassing they wouldn't have an easier solution immediately available for us in the Northeast!!

I just checked the Nokian Tire website and they show a NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA R3 SUV in size 295/35R21 107T XL (up to 118 mph max load 2150 lb). I didn't check for the front tire size.

EDIT: WRONG SIZE! Nevermind. The correct rear tire size is: 295/30R21. Nothing available in that size.

Yep there ya go- they are available- buy the winter wheel full set with tires mounted, will last you 3 years. Then you can sell the wheels later. I’ve done this and worked out great.

I’m surprised they wouldn’t be available online somewhere..tirerack or tires direct. Hmmm

Does anyone else besides me here have a section of storage space set away for wheels and tires from cars you haven't owned in years?

You may want to ask the dealer if they will store your winters for you. Some dealers will do this. Cars you haven’t owned in years? Just trying to help.

Yes. I seem to buy aftermarket wheels/tires for every car I purchase. I alway put the original set back on when I sell or trade in the car and then never get around to selling the aftermarket set. Maybe it's just me.
