Another theory is PAG switched from sound symposer to electronic engine sound generator toward the end of 992.1 production.

if this theory is true, then perhaps all 992.2 has no sound symposer and will have the electronic sound generator instead..

with electronic sound generator it will be much easier to manipulate the sound

I'm not smart enough to know what that means in relation to answering my question.

I am sure all of us would have bought the car regardless, but they should simply be more forthcoming about this, because it matters to their customers base.
This was my thought as well

Unless the different air flow design and construction of the different rear bumper interfered with the symposer.......which might also explain Mike 818's wiring diagram. My bet is Porsche's decisions involved reducing costs and increasing profit which is its usual MO. I agree it is all speculative and, so far, defies common sense (resonator v. electronic sound v. nothing).

Look at the photo in post #110. It means his 992 lacks those items circled in red in that photo.

My guess would be that Porsche pumps the engine sound through the same quality and size of speaker in the rear across the range and they are all controlled by the same separate device so that it is standardized across stereos.

If you change the speakers it could definitely change the sound. Unfortunately, when I changed my rear speakers they did not reconnect the engine sound so I do not have any insight to how the engine sound would change.

Based on the wiring diagrams shared above, I feel slighted. Do you feel slighted?

This may be an unpopular opinion here, but I don’t think the 911 sounds that great from cold start to 4000 rpm. Once you get it over 4000 rpm it comes to life and is incredible, but how often are most people driving around town at high rpms especially without a manual transmission. When you compare how it sounds to other comparably priced toys, I understand why they use fake engine noise from a sales and marketing perspective. They should just be honest about it and give you the option to turn it off in the PCM.

Did we get a definitive answer on this? Is there artificial engine noise pumped through the speakers on the 992 carreras? If yes they did a really good job. I cant tell.

I don’t know all of the circuitry wizardry going on, but some of the sound in the .2 is synthetic. Whether or not PSE has any effect is anybody’s guess.

Some 992s have it and some do not. Look at the photo in post 110 and compare it to your car. If you have the items circled in red then you have it. If you do not have them, then you don’t. I have a 992.1S with SD rear bumper and I do not have them on my car.

2022 S MT with PSE, no symposer, not a sport design rear bumper.
