enough about the obstructed dash already...

I’m a member of a demographic thats still hanging on to sweeping white needles and while the new dash won’t keep me from buying a 992 (or enjoying it) I would love a little more ”race” put into this area.
Will the GT3 get the same dash?
BTW, the movie was the best I’ve seen in years, it will make you want to head to the track.

These were taken this morning, from eye level. I'm 6'2, drive with the seat in its lowest possible position and with the steering wheel as high and close to the driver as possible. I sit fairly close to the wheel, as I'm sure most of you do, to be in the proper driving position. I don't think I even noticed that the outside dials were slightly obscured until today. Just a very strange issue.

I can see the gauges in my 991.1 GTS and 991.2 GT3T perfectly. I could care less if Porsche obscured the gauges in the past and are doing it once again in the 992. They nailed it in the 991 which is all that matters to me. And yes, it would bother me if the gauges were obstructed from view when driving.

You don't sit in your car with the top of your head at the top of the steering wheel however so these photos don't really represent the angles that a driver would see the gauges at.
The outer gauges are blocked when you look from a normal seating position.

As per your own photos... the steering wheels on the older 911's are much thinner. So while the steering wheel goes across the outer gauges it doesn't completely block them. On the new 992 there are screens and a WIDE steering wheel and they completely block like half of each screen. It may be repeated alot but it's also definitely an issue.

If I have a chance in the next few days, I'm going to go back and take more photos in a 992 at eye level to see the difference, but I'd be willing to be they're almost exactly the same, seeing as the new gauge cluster is maybe what, a few centimeters wider than the 991.2 version? I just don't get why this is causing such a huge commotion, sure it might be very slightly wider, but it's just not that dramatic of a shift, and would seem to vary based on height, seating position and steering wheel position. Not to mention the 991.2 gauges can very easily be slightly obscured too. Seems like there might have been a way to save a few centimeters here and there by slightly angling the gauges more or making the tachometer a little smaller/closer to the inner digital gauges, but it's really just not that different.

I didn't take any in the 992 from exact eye level, but I will definitely do so as soon as I can. I'm not even in the market for a new car for probably another 2.5 years at earliest anyway, I just think it's a goofy discussion.

I hear Karl Ludvigsen has a new edition coming out: "Apathy Was Accepted."

We should expect better from Porsche. If not, they’ll continue to get away with shortcuts. This and other decisions (e.g. making the 911 have a design consistent with the rest of the lineup) may have been the VW parent company’s influence. The 992 is perhaps the first 911 that was fully designed after Piech/VW v. Porsche battle.

Of course Piech is not there anymore, but VW obviously is.
