Default Standard Stereo?

Has anyone tried out the standard stereo in the new 992? According to Porsche's website it sounds like a decent system:
Sound Package Plus, with eight loudspeakers and a total output of 150 watts, delivers excellent sound. The amplifier integrated into Porsche Communication Management (PCM) optimally adapts the acoustic pattern in the vehicle interior to the driver and front passenger.
Does anyone have a 992 with the standard stereo who can comment on the sound quality? Is it worth upgrading?

The 992 Bose system is greatly improved from previous versions. It sounds superb...and I'm an audiophile!

I concur. The Bose system uses a proprietary DAC especially designed for compressed music formats.

I must admit that I'm impressed with the Bose system via bluetooth and Apple car play.

Yes, I immediately noticed the improved quality of XM radio audio, compared to the Bose system in my 991.1.

And FYI, to the folks who compare the bass of the Bose system to the Burmeister audio system.....you really can't judge the audio quality of an automotive sound system when the car is parked. Once you're "on the road", the noise level and noise spectrum in the cabin changes dramatically. This ambient noise has a psycho-acoustic effect on what you hear. Typically, your sensitivity to bass is much LOWER when there is a lot of bass noise energy in the car (typical when you're driving), and therefore the audio system needs MORE bass to compensate. This could be why the Bose system sounds more "bassy": to provide adequate bass in real-world (driving) listening conditions.

Standard vs Bose vs Burmester: Go with something in the middle which is BOSE.
If you do not care of stereo then save yourself $1600 and choose Standard Stereo.

Before I ordered mine I borrowed one from the dealership for a few hours and I thought the standard audio sounded good. The dealership also said they ordered all their demo cars with standard system. I haven't heard the Bose or the BM but standard is absolutely not bad at all so went with this.

It's true to say the standard system is pretty good for a standard system, but the Burmester is in a different league.

If you value clarity and depth (distinctly as opposed to volume, although the BM can go higher and maintain its quality) then you need to upgrade.

Obviously most of us will get to a max budget (and options are very personal) so I guess you need to decide what matters more/most.

As an example, I wanted car performance and the Burmester, so I had to skip over SD and some other external stuff and some of the safety systems to come in on budget.

If I wanted looks, safety and performance I'd have had to skip the Burmester.

Etc, etc.

Hope that helps...

Even in my 991.2 I noticed a big improvement in Bose over 991.1. It was like a step change.

That's good to know - sounds like the Bose in the 992 is perhaps the sweet spot between performance and price

I have the standard audio system in my 992 and it is solid. I mostly use it for phone calls, talk radio or light music so don’t care for the higher end systems.

Does the "standard" audio system include AM radio? FYI, the Bose system does NOT have AM!

Thanks for the feedback guys! I already ordered my 992 with the Standard Stereo. I was debating the Bose, but I already spend over $23k in options...
