I've been playing on the Porsche 992 configurator and came across this option listed under the "interior aluminum" for $750. For those who dislike the "nubbin", it appears you have an alternative. The knurling is gone and the shape is slightly different.
Even if it is not a functional upgrade (i.e., the driver is still not able to shift gears with it), it is definitely a visual upgrade in my book. I wish they had odds in Vegas on whether the #nubbin would make it into the 992.2. If they did, I would bet the ranch that the #nubbin ends up in the "where are they now?" bin of Porsche's R and D department.
Please see the interior live before you make a judgement. I also thought that interior looked bad but in reality it is a big difference and everything works.
The lack of being able to switch gears and rest your hand on the gear selector is good. You are forced to have both hands on the steering wheel which is both safer and better.

...yes 3 & 9, and given the mysterious disappearing cup holder won’t be holding onto a coffee or coke while your driving either. Guess a MT is a major safety hazard...
Yeah, I am not buying the whole: "We did it so you can keep both hands on the steering wheel" explanation for the #nubbin. I also read somewhere that they justified the nubbin by saying it makes for easier access to the surrounding buttons. Not buying that one, either. End of the day, it was just an R and D misfire both visually and functionally. Porsche will learn from it and I am sure the 992.2 will have a vastly improved....something (not sure what to call it because who knows if it will shift gears?).

I saw the interior at the Werks Amelia Island and I cannot decide what I like the least, the interior or exterior.
Someone should see if you can stuff the 991 PDK shifter onto a 992
Somehow, I suspect the aftermarket vendors will have a replacement for the nubbin that looks even better than what Porsche is offering. Interesting how Porsche seems to be acknowledging the design fail of the nubbin by offering an alternative.

I doubt you would have any takers on the wager unless you gave significant odds.

All I know is that I have two Mercedes, both auto's and one with the old 'traditional' style shifter and no paddles, the other their current column mounted one with paddles. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I do prefer the old style one, it just feels better to use. Do I rest my hand on it while driving? Nope, at least not consciously. But I do occasionally shift manually with it, unlike the paddles which I hardly ever touch.
Like I say, maybe I'm just old fashioned but that new shifter in the 992 looks half baked. I say either have a proper one or get rid of it completely. That'd get you all the cup holder space you need....
