I felt the same way the first time I saw a clutchless Ferrari with that dinky little lever on the console. I currently drive a Mercedes S Coupe and the selector is a stalk on the right side of the steering column--I think that's odd because there's nothing on the console except the mouse wheel. I have a friend that's hung up on any car not having a nice place to rest your hand on the console as well! He used to constantly make fun of my 2011 Jaguar XKR with the selector dial on the console. I'm trading for a BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe next month--it has the selector lever on the console that you can use to shift as well as the paddles. We'll see how much I use it.

Are the shift paddles made of metal like 991 or is it plastic? read a review earlier, it said that the paddles were plastic.

The paddles are most certainly metal and an improvement over the 991 pieces.

Its funny, everything in the review listed is completely subjective to ones own personal viewpoint, and I actually find everything he stated to be an upgrade over the previous generation. Plastic paddles?? 😂

The 991. That’s what you need to compare it to. It may have quirks that other manufacturers don’t, but what does it look and feel like when you step inside and drive it? After you’ve driven a 991.2.. we can go on all day comparing it to other high end manufacturers, but at the end of the day. What’s been done to improve it over the last generation. Everything!

Except the pop out door handles. That was not something that needed to be changed or fixed.

Still ordering one. I love my 991.2 but I want a manual targa. Can’t wait.

These arguments between generations repeat with every new model release. All good. I’m thrilled to be able to afford these toys.

The piano black trims that auto makers seem to deify are terrible; smudges, dirt/dust, scratches are all magnified on gloss black.

Glad mine isn't that way, ordered the brushed aluminum that I enjoy to look at, no reflections and always clean-looking.

As far the nubbin, it's the shape of things to come, no gearing, no engine noise, no shifting, no ICE, no buttons, just touch screens for the electric future.

Maybe even the nubbin will be a subject of nostalgia soon enough.

Your brushed aluminum won’t replace the gloss black trim around the shifter that he’s talking about.

There's a piece of gloss black trim like this on the OUTSIDE of my Ford Raptor and other F150 trucks. It's on the B pillar trim between the front and rear windows. It's funny having a piece of trim on a pickup truck that you're scared to touch because you'll put swirl marks on it.

Default Gimmie Gimmie some nubbin

I agree w/ previous posters - once you actually spend time in the 992 , my “complaints” seem to go away. The drive / experience is so much better than my 991.1 C4S , I don’t miss her much. Exhaust note is the exception for me. That said , I think much of the nub unlove relates back to PDK vs stick. Previous PDK gear selector kinda sorta looked like a stick and kinda sorta functioned like one too. Many feel that PDK is for wusses and now , it looks super wuss. “Purists” may not like it or feel like they should not like it. I love and respect 911 heritage but I’m not a purist. 18” BBS RS GT wheels on Blackie , my lowered 91 964 is evidence there of. I love em both and they are quite different. I don’t feel less of a man engaging the nub vs engaging the clutch and or attempting to toe heel and failing. No offense intended to any man, woman , child or wuss.

To be fair, non-owners are the ones they should be listening to, if not necessarily heeding religiously. They already have your money, and some of mine as well (my ancient 981BS is my second P-car.) If nubbins and GPS-disciplined door handles and whatnot are what it takes to bring in new blood, then that's what they have to do.

Personally, I've driven 991s but have no seat time in 992s yet. I'm sure they're awesome, though, because if they weren't, nobody would care enough to bitch about nubbins and door handles and whatnot.

(There, now you have 25 likes. That and $4 will get you a cuppa Joe at Starbucks!)
