I think you did not make a mistake. Yes Spyder wheels are a pain to clean and keep clean even coated LOL. However you picked the right colour, dark gray should be fine, and they looks EPIC. I really like the new design.

I just love the obsession with cleaning. I actually felt guilty after reading similar posts about cleaning. Personally, I like the Spyder wheels. But here is what I did:
  1. Wrap the entire car.
  2. Clean it up once a year.
My car always looks good to me - the minute I start the engine. The rest just does not matter!

I think that your decision to go the the Spyder wheel is spot on! They look amazing. For me, ease of cleaning and not wanting anything 'polished' on my build (as with the perimeter of the Spyder wheel) steered me away from it; but that is simply personal preference... nothing more.

you don't have PCCB so you have to clean either way. Good call with RS Spyder, can't go wrong! The heritage alone is worth it.

I haven't been able to find any info on which 992 wheels are forged and which are cast, or any wheel weight info. Can you provide link to source? BTW, I have the Classics coming on my C4, mainly because I like the style, however the colour on inside of the spokes complements the Agate Grey well IMO.

Based on the configurator it looks like the only ones that are forged are actually the Carrera Exclusive Design wheels. The Carrera classics just look like the standard S wheel but with a machined face so I can't imagine they would be forged if the standard ones aren't forged.

RS Spyder wheels are really fantastic...also they get the 305s instead of 295s in the rear, which is cool...and they def fill out the wells better.

The Carrera Exclusives are the only forged stock wheels according to the configurator.

I tried to get the exact wheel specs (specifically weight) from Porsche but they would not provide them.

I have the Carrera S wheels and my rears are 305s. The Spyders are nice but definitely more time consuming to keep clean, including the barrels and calipers. Also, I'm not a fan of the metallic/polished edge around the standard Spyder wheel (not a fan of shiny silver bits on my cars)... but that is just personal preference .

All 4 wheel choices have the same offset and width and come with 305’s in the rear. They will each fill the wheel wells equally.

Only the Exclusive is forged.

I wouldn't base the determination of "forged"/cast using the configurator or anything on the Porsche web site for that matter. Porsche has a long history of being inconsistent here. You will find mismatched descriptions on Porsche's own web site and from third party sellers.

Also, everyone knows that the 992 RS Spyder Design wheels are the best looking Porsche OEM option available right now. It's objectively the best wheel choice. :P

Only the actual tire images are wrong there. Both say "Carrera Exclusive" as forged, which matches configurator. They just have the wrong tire images matched.

I'm still trying to get the official tire specs from Porsche, will add them if they ever provide that info.

I went with the spider on my Chalk color car and I love it.. but to be honest... I get FOMO about the other ½ dozen choices I had... they honestly all look amazing.. you just sort of have to pick one .. or buy 6 different wheels sets!
