Looks like information about the base model is coming out: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...a-photos-info/
- Same 3.0l turbo
- 379 hp/331 lb-ft torque
- Only PDK right now
- 0-60 4.0s or 3.8 w/ SC
- Starts at $98750 coupe / $111550 cabrio
I don't see it on the US configurator yet.

$99K. Wow. I was expecting a bump over the 991.2, but...
You guy have seen more of these transitions than I have. Is going from 91K to 99K about what you expect from Porsche these days for model transitions?

Actually, a base 991.2 is priced at $92,350 with destination charge. Add the PDK option, which is standard in the 992, and it's up to $95,560. So the actual increase in cost is about 3.3%, which isn't too bad considering the extra power and the possibility (unconfirmed) that both LED headlights and multifunction steering wheel will be standard equipment, as they are in the S.

Very disappointed to see that the base car didn’t get a black tachometer dial with an orange needle.
I was really hoping that the Grey dial and white needle was just an “S” thing,
It’s a minor detail for most I know but without the classic orange on back with the big Porsche font numbers the 992 tach looks so generic to me.

I think Porsche figured out that they gave the base 991.2 too much power last time which affected sales of the S.
The 992.1 base carrera has the same torque and only very slightly more HP than the 991.2 base carrera, yet costs a lot more and is a lot heavier.
Much bigger gap in performance this time between the base carrera and the S model in the 992.1, than in the 991.2

379hp from a 3.0 turbo and only 97k before options?
Definitely a bargain considering the $60,000 BMW M2C only gives you a slightly higher 410hp from its 3.0 turbo and doesn't include the fabulous 60" dual television screens. In fairness to the BMW, it does have almost every option included at that price but as we all know you can't put a price on screen real estate. Plus the manual transmission on the 991 has that 7th gear everyone wants!

I have an an M2, a buddy I work with has an M2C, we've both tracked our cars. I borrowed my friends 991.2. The BMW is great value for money but it's not even in the same league when it comes to how it drives. You can't compare the two. I love my M2, but a 911 is a giant step up.

They really have kept the horsepower down... it still hasn’t caught up with the “S” numbers from the 10 year old 997.2 which had 385 hp. On the other hand the S matches the GT3 RS hp numbers from that era at 444 hp. Now power to weight is another story....
