If the thing comes out with 475 hp and about 445 lb-ft...that would be one hot car in RWD format.

If I had to bet, I'd go with 470 HP and 430 ft-lbs. Very sweet in a RWD GTS coupe!

I have a 991.2 2018 GTS2 Cab. I'm not super excited about the 992 variant as the feature I love the most on my GTS is the wide body WITHOUT all wheel drive. Now that they are all wide body it doesn't seem special (I do like the centrelocks as well but that's just a side bar) A wide body look is what I missed most on my 997.1S so the GTS has always been appealing. It seems like the 992 version will really only be unique in regards to the centre lock wheels and a bunch of stickers(which I deleted from my order) My usual 2 cents.

agree that it seems like PAG is trying to homogenize the Carrera line, now all have the widebody and rear full length lightbar. Preferred it when all the models had their own subtle nuances, even though I do like the widebody and lightbar look

They’re doing that because they expect to sell fewer 911s this generation and trying to control costs as a result.

Maybe the Taycan is to blame

Than Taycan shares a lot of switchgear with our cars, including the door handles.
The Macan is to blame, because it's paying the bills at Porsche right now.

I see.. Just curious, but why would they sell less this generation?

It's totally a cost control measure to use the same wide body for the Carrera line- it really diminishes the GTS moniker for me...

I was just talking about this....and agree completely. I think the GTS sales won't be as strong as they've been in the past because of this...also cost given a nice c2s is already 148k, and nice 4s builds are 155...that makes a GTS something around 160 at minimum...which is THICK into 991.2 GT money!

I agree and have a GTS. So the new GTS will probably be coming in at 480hp with 415 ft lbs, but all the goodies (spoiler from and rear etc) will be on it, so when resale time comes around you'll get a lower number on trade in on the S because it will be valued with lower packaged models, whereas the GTS will be a little higher since the base model will have more options built in.

992 Test mules have already been spotted. When the 991.2 came out in 2016 as a 2017 model year, the GTS was right behind, built with in the same model year. The 997 and 991.1 GTS were entirely different animals,
Being NA, it was difficult to squeeze that extra power out that the 3.8. It required a number of internal engine design changes to get that extra 25-30 Hp.
The 991.2 and 992 are relatively easy. Just an ECU tune for more boost and away it goes as a GTS engine, at higher profit.
I'm betting the GTS comes out as a late 2020 model or maybe a 2021.
And don't forget, the 992's to the USA were held up in ports for some months. It's later than many think, into the 2020 model year. Most unveiling parties at dealerships were 3-4 months later than expected. My guess is we will see the GTS production starting soonwe than later.

Detansinn - do you have a source that leads you to believe PAG expects to sell less 911’s this generation? Sorry if I missed it if you already explained somewhere else.. I missed it. I’m genuinely curious. I actually would hope they sell less, and then we’d see less of them on the roads.

It’s been mentioned numerous places. Between SUVs and EVs, buyer’s tastes have changed and Porsche is working to meet them. Today, from a revenue perspective, the Macan is the single most important product in Porsche’s portfolio — who would have predicted that a decade ago.

It’s not like the 911 is going away, but with the 992, they’ve made changes to broaden the appeal of the car to what is a shrinking potential market.

Okay that makes sense. I thought maybe someone at PAG mentioned this. Thanks for the response
