992 GTS
I wondering when this community expects the 992 to be released in GTS form. As I understand it, the GTS was introduced at the end of the life cycle of the 997 (I don't think there were 993 or 996 GTSs - maybe I'm wrong...) Anyway, for both the 997 and 991, the GTS was introduced near the end of the cycle. If they do the same with the 992, they will effectively be eliminating a "high volume" car from their line up for 3 - 4 years. That seems strange. It seem like a missed opportunity. Then again, maybe Porsche's logic is that people with a 991 GTS will hold them until the 992 GTS is available so it makes sense to delay releasing the 992 GTS for a couple of years. What is the speculation (or insight) as to when you think the 992 GTS will be released?

Next they will probably be releasing the base Carrera, after that Targa’s. Then probably the turbo followed by the turbo s, then the GT3 and somewhere after that (probably before the RS models) the GTS will be released.
So yeah, you will be looking at a few years! It makes no sense to push the GTS forward for them.

The 991 had two iterations of GTS, the first one coming about 3 years from the 991.1 Introduction in late 2011. I would not be surprised if this turn time was shortened in the 992, something like mid-late 2020 preview at Auto shows.

An educated guess, the 992 GTS will have 475 Hp and with the wide track and variable aero tricks, should easily crack 7:20 on the Nordschleife. The 992 C2S is at 7:25, 8 seconds faster than the 991.2 C2S and little more than a second shower than the 991.2 GTS. The 992 GTS should be faster than the 991.1 GT3 RS and getting into 991.2 911 Turbo S territory. So Porsche will very likely delay the 992 GTS until most all 991.2s are cleared out of dealer inventories, b4 introducing the 992 GTS.

The way I see it, you can already spec a 992 with Sports package, (sports PASM with 10mm lowered, PSE, and Sport Chrono package), and RAS. The only thing that’s currently missing is the optional power boost of say, 30 HP, but I’m thinking that would be easy to do with an after market increase in turbo boost pressure. So, IMHO, yes, you could build a current 992-S to future GTS specs, albeit at a slightly higher cost.

Their logic is probably that they can get people who really want a 992 to buy a C4S and then upgrade to a GTS 3 years later. Also they probably view models like GTS as a way of shoring up demand as the initial excitement wanes. Most cars have a spike in Year 1 and then a drop off. To have more steady production levels in the factory, they can add more options/models over the lifecycle to create a flatter demand pattern which improves factory economics.

Yeah, GTS comes at the end of the cycle for any Porsche, kind of like the "Sport", "Platinum" , "Black", and "Annniversary" editions for applicable models in their line-up.

carreras weigh less than TTs. It adds up with all the rest of the tweaks, every generation. Plus tires get better which helps.

That's it! I have a first year 991.1 GTS. I had had a C4S on order when the GTS was introduced in September 2014. I immediately cancelled the C4S order and ordered my dealer's first GTS - a MY15 model. It was produced in November 2014 and I took delivery in January 2015.
