Default Are you opting for roof lining in Alcantara?

Since Porsche is now charging to have roof lining in Alcantara, I’m wondering how many are or will select this option to have Alcantara over your head.
I’m on the fence and currently not selecting it on my build.

What do you think?

I deleted it from my GTS build (seats, other interior bits) and went with leather instead. Alcantara in the GT3 was one reason why I went with the GT3T instead (it has leather instead of alcantara). I, for one, would never pay to have Alcantara in any of my cars. I'd much rather have the free, non-Alcantara option. Just the fact that they are now charging for something that used to be included is a) not surprising and b) totally annoying. Save your money.

I went with it. I got a graphite blue interior and matching alcantara headliner. I didn’t like having to pay for it but I think it finishes up the interior nicely, specially at this price point. My build is less track more street so I wanted a richer interior.

Another item I realized is most press pictures have cars with a silver metal trim and door handles (so called “light silver diamar”). If you don’t choose any trim then it’s a darker grey with matte finish. Given I wanted a lighter trim to contrast with dark interior I had to select this option too!

I’ve seen the cloth interior which looks excellent in quality. Won’t be missing the alcantara at all.

It's the same material used on the Macan, Cayenne, etc. I'm sure. It's a good quality for a standard cloth, but still not as nice as alcantara.

IMO it's a joke they've removed this from the 911, especially at this price point and especially as the price of the car goes up. It adds a flavor and richness to the 991 interior. Maybe they think that since the 992 interior is so much more "luxury," they can get away with "not needing it" as much.

Perhaps the best 992 mod will be pulling over quickly before you swap from your 991 and switching headliners.

I've specced it on my imminent 992 2S but its not as bad as it sounds as it also included the Alcantara sun visors which were an expensive cost option on the 991..I've also got a 992 2S Cabrio coming in July where it wasn't an issue anyway..

$590 for 991 alcantara sun visors in US. That’s a good point Taffy66 to help ease my pain of checking the headliner box!

When i configured my 992 back in March i chose the Alcantara headlining option as it clearly stated that it also included the Alcantara sun visors..Imagine my shock when i took delivery on my 992 a couple of weeks ago that the visors were still the standard plastic despite the Alcantara headlining..I then checked the on-line configurator at home and surprise surprise no longer any mention of the Alcantara visors..I assume that Porsche have deleted the Alcantara visors when you choose to upgrade the headlining..
Check with your dealer if that's the case to avoid being disappointed.

I will check - my delivery will be in Europe but there should not be a difference with US specs.

The configurator does indeed not mention the sun visors ...

Anyway ... enjoy every minute when driving your car !

I really want to get it. When I specced my current car (BMW M5) I skipped the Alcantara headliner because adding it would have added a few weeks to my build time and I really couldn't wait. Over the last 4 years of driving it every single day I have come to realize I should have gotten it! I decided then I would not skip it next time.

This is "next time". Its a pity I have to pay extra for it but the way I see it, its just one more option amongst many that are really more "wants" than "needs". So, why not? You don't build a Porsche 911 very often. Actually from some of the posts here it seems like some of you do this quite regularly

From the current US configurator:

Covered in Alcantara®:
  • Roof lining
  • A-pillar trim, B-pillar cover (upper section)
  • Sun visors

If you had 911’s for the last few years then I suspect you would miss the Alcantara in the 992. I paid the money to have the same feeling. If you didn’t then I don’t suppose you would miss it.

Another profit center for Porsche. Regardless you should spec the alcantara. Love it on my 911 and Macan Turbo.
