why does one have to be a 992 hater to criticize unnecessary complexity? the other parts you mention actually have functionality. putting an electric motor in a door handle is just utterly unnecessary.

personally, i think it's utterly ridiculous, and a win of someone not on the engineering team in porsche. i'm a big fan but i can also call a spade a spade. they do make bad decisions sometimes. see also, no physical homelink buttons.

that said, i will be buying a 992.

The number one warranty with Teslas has been their door handles in Europe where they use the cars for taxis. Two drivers told me they had replaced over 20 handles in one year.....when I saw these handles, I thought the same thing might happen.....

Yes, more frequent use, but they did not have these issues with mercedes or VWs they use.......not a 992 hater, just think they over engineered these handles..........

Update after speaking to the dealer today; apparently this is a common occurrence , and they’ll replace the handle. So I have no issues. Personally I like the door handles, just a bit odd the way they retract so quickly and then you can pull them out to open the door , which I think causes this problem.

Re Tesla - as far as I know, only the Model S that has the pop out handles. They've backed away from them on all other models. It's a bad idea, and any aerodynamic benefit is so minuscule as to not exist.

I don't like hearing that.

I was looking at the pictures of the Nissan 400Z prototype and thought that the door handles are a brilliant design. They are flush with the body yet don’t need a motor to pop them out. It’s a really slick design in my opinion. Brilliantly simple. Too bad Porsche didn’t do something like that rather than copying Tesla.

The electric door handles are literally one of the least complicated thing on this car. :P

I agree...not much different than the automatic rear spoiler that Porsche has been doing since the 964... I have far more faith in Porsche to engineer a solid automatic door handle versus Tesla...
