To buy or not to buy (992)
Hi folks.. I need some sage advice.
About October last year, I decided to pull the trigger on ordering a new 991.2 GTS, when I heard that the 992 would be announced at the LA auto show. My local dealer assured me that although it was supposed to be announced then, it actually wouldn't be and it was delayed until March 2019, at which point we could expect deliveries in the later part of 2019 or maybe even 2020. I decided to order the 991.2.. then of course Porsche DID announce the 992. The problem is, I want MT and the 992 will only (initially) come in PDK. OK, so I assumed that MT would be a fast follow, so I told my dealer that I preferred to wait for the 992 (they were fine with it btw).
Now I hear that MT may not come in the 992 (S) for a couple of years. Years! My dealer said they'd let me know when the 991.2 arrives (probably next month) "just in case" I decided I wanted it. So now I have a dilemma. Do I take delivery of the 991.2 GTS (MT obviously) "now", or hold strong for the 992 MT without knowing when exactly it will be announced. I definitely don't want to way "years".
Thoughts?

There will be a manual S sooner than later.
They will roll out options pretty quick. My money would be they will announce a manual in six months or less. Maybe even four months.
Wouldn't be surprised to see a GTS in around 12 months.

Manual transmission will likely be available in Fall. I doubt it will be a 2 year wait. GTS may be a 2 year wait.

Take the incoming GTS. For a lot of reason, the main one being "you already bought/ordered it.
Buy the 992.2 or the 992.1 2020 version. I say this because I don't like buying the first model year of any new car.
You never get much from Porsche buying the "next version" you really need to wait two cycles or more to really get a "bump".

Personally, I'd buy the 991.2 GTS. It's the best looking model of the 991 generation. Despite being the older generation, it should hold it's value reasonably well and the car is well sorted out at this point. You can always trade in on the 992 GTS, which may be 2 years down the road.

The only scenario in which I would buy a 991.2 is if it was used or heavily discounted. A new 991.2 bought today will drop 50% of value in 2 years. Much more than normal depreciation because of the model change.

The only questions I'd be asking myself in your position would be: Which one do I like more? What does the 992 give me over the 991.2 that's worth waiting potentially another 6+ months for?
Personally, I could care less about the "latest and greatest" according to the peanut gallery because the only thing that matters in the end is whether you think it's better or not.

Thanks y'all. Although the ~50/50 split between BUY! and DON'T BUY! doesn't make the decision much clearer, there are lot's of great perspectives

If it's a car that you're going to keep for awhile, then it's probably worthwhile to wait if the 992 is what you really want. Some people get new 911's every year or two, but if you're someone who keeps them long term you don't want to be regretting that you didn't wait a few extra months for the car you had your heart set on. You should ask yourself, would you find yourself longing for the new model when you see it on the street?

The MT will be out in 6mths or less. I'd be shocked if it wasn't announced by then.
Your dilemma is not too different to mine, I elected to wait and will be getting my 992 in May - had my eye on a 991.2 GTS since June 2018 but was willing to wait and I'm glad I did (I'm a sucker for new tech and I love what they've done on the interior of the new car).
But I will share the advice that was given to me in case it helps you - if you want the 991.2 GTS MT now, then buy it... just stay in the GTS cycle and get a 992 GTS MT in 24-36mths when they come out, or wait longer and get a 992.2 MT, your trade/depreciation shouldn't be terrible. I guess it depends on your buying cycles, personally, I wouldn't change my 992 for at least 4 years, so my next upgrade will likely be a 992.2 GTS
No point in rushing a purchase of this nature unless you have cash to burn, in which case get what will make you happy now. For me, I just can't look at a 991.2 and not feel that it is the old one (a bit shallow maybe, but that's just what my eyes see)

If you're happy with your current ride, then maybe wait out the 8-12 months (factoring in production time) to get yourself in a 992 MT.
But if you can't stand the POS that's your current ride, take the 991.2 GTS, order the 992 MT when the order books open, and trade it in for the new 992 when it arrives. Yes, you'll eat quite a bit of depreciation on the 991.2 GTS, but if you hate the POS you're currently driving, consider it the price driving in style and peace of mind. Plus, never overlook the fact that you might die tomorrow. Carpe diem.
Good luck with your decision. No wrong choices, just better ones.

I have no idea when the MT will be available. If you’ve seen the 992 and like how it looks, I would wait for it because I think you’ll quickly regret spending a lot of money for an outdated model. If you haven’t seen the 992, I suggest you take a close look at it. I liked the exterior, but thought the interior was so so. My wife didn’t like the exterior at all (and yes, she’s a car girl (she drives a 2001 BMW Z8)).
