Actually, the Wet Mode in the Corvette works really well. It does not have moisture sensors in the wheel wells like a Porsche, but it keep you from spinning out in wet conditions. Unless.... you go into a lake, like the above picture!
Does anyone know when they will add HUD to 992? I think it's crazy you can get HUD in a KIA, but not in a 2020 Porsche 911.
There are the folks who complain that the 911 is too digital and then there are those who complain that it’s not digital enough. 🤣
For me, a sports car provides an experience that you don’t even have to look at the dash, let alone a HUD, to know what’s going on. Speed? RPM? Clock? Who cares. I am focused on the next corner, listening, and feeling what’s going on with the car.
In a DD, the reality is all manner of road debris gets thrown against the windshield, resulting in micro-pitting that is quite visible when looking AT the windshield rather than THROUGH it. Any HUD I've ever seen is focused on the windshield, and would be extremely annoying to me on anything but a spanking new car (or replacement windscreen). A HUD that projected a holographic image in my line of sight somewhere out in front of the car would be interesting, but I sure as heck wouldn't pay a dime extra for it when info displayed inside the car works just fine. HUD to me - in a street vehicle application, at least - seems to be a solution in search of a problem.

The modern HUDs in BMWs works like what you describe. They are actually designed to be focused about 6 feet ahead of the windscreen, so that your eyes are not focused on the windscreen itself. This also reduces eye-strain involved in switching focus between near (the HUD) and far (the road, other traffic).
Oh please no! The last thing this car needs is another electronic gizmo that doesn’t work! If it had HUD it would either only be accessible by navigating three layers deep into the main screen and you’d have to do it each time you started the car, or it would be blocked by the steering wheel or the visor. They need to make the gauges that they already have visible, before introducing more of them! (Well placed, highly visible gauges makes HUD superfluous) Actually, now that I think about it, the two outer gauges are already HUD: Hidden, Useless, Displays.
FWIW - I like HUD in my bimmers, but don't miss it in the 911. The way it drives is so incredible I just forget about the random shortcomings with the electronics, infotainment, etc.
In order to get a HUD while not increasing the tech load I'm willing to give up wet mode, the shaver, and a carbon fiber owners manual cover. Since I'm getting rid of the shaver that means I'll have a stick which in turn means that I should get a tech credit to offset the caveman tech. Not sure what I'd go for but if I could choose anything I wanted it would most definitely be naked supermodel dispenser.
I agree, HUD is a hard requirement for a 2020 car. I have it in my X5. It's become annoying when I'm in a car that doesn't have a HUD. I'm sure they will add it in although the article above makes me think it will be reserved for the GT cars initially.

DISCLAIMER: Your "hard requirements" may vary. :P
It's certainly not a "hard requirement" for me. I'd be quite surprised if the GT cars got the HUD as it's completely counter to the experience that they're delivering -- it would be like getting ACC for a GT3RS. LOL. I wouldn't be surprised if the Turbo would be the first to get it, because that kind of thing is what that car is all about now.

Not in the context of the article. There is literally a GT3RS in the HUD projection and it's talking about racing lines. Sounds pretty GT-ish to me ... who knows either way, it's too soon to tell.

Racing lines on the HUD? Meh, sounds more like playing Forza on XBOX than driving a real car.

Yep - likely what they are aiming for! I can imagine them using the HUD as an extension of the PCM track recording functionality and Sport Chrono pack.
