The 991 series the vents were high enough to put your phone holder there. Also on a Hot day getting that cold blast coming out from the center upper vent was a huge welcome. But the 993 center vents location is much lower - not sure how that will affect the heat or cold stream that hit the occupants .
I would probably place the metal plate as low as possible on the back of my phone / case and place the magnetic mount into the very right corner of the air vent. Depends of course whether your phone is potentially too large, thus blocking parts of the infotainment screen.
Actually I was told that you wont need it anymore. The new console allows you to control it all from the console. However, I use google voice a lot when making callls and toggle between numbers when dialing out.When using google voice I use the option to select which number to diAl from so I need my phone handy at anytime. I would need it and this could be an issue for my scenario.
