It’s possible but I suspect anything that far out is heavily subject to revisions based on “market conditions”...

Looking forward to the 992 myself. While I am a fan of the NA motors of the past (and plan to keep my Cayman GTS for exactly this reason), I am a believer in the new motors with my recently acquired 991.2 daily driver. If the 992 carries the evolution of the 991.2 even further, I will most definitely get one as a replacement for my current 991.2.

493HP is 500PS, which is what the current NA GT3 puts out. A 500HP turbocharged GT3 would have the equivalent of an 80HP advantage (under the curve) relative to the current 991 Series II GT3.

It would be devastating round a track or for that matter anywhere

My best guess is the new GT4 will have between 390HP and 420HP in turbo form and the new GT3 (992) will have between 500HP to 520HP in turbo form. One four cylinder turbo the other six cylinder turbo.

the 992 will have to be lighter weight and slightly higher HP over 991.2 to be a winner.

I don't think a four cyl can carry a numeric GT moniker. And selling a six digit sticker four cyls would be a tough ask.

You're right, it can't... until it does. Just like a 911 can't be water-cooled. Or have a wet-sump. Or have a 4-cylinder (we'll have to call it a 912! That will fool people! ). Just like a GT car can't have an Automatic transmission. Followed by, just like a GT car can't have a manual transmission.

The list of ABSOLUTES from Porsche, whether in the general sportscar line or the GT line, that later became non-absolutes, or even absolutes in the exact opposite direction, prevents me from ever saying "A GT car can't/must have XXXX" It's a fool's errand.

Top racing Porsches throughout history have carried 4-cylinders (Typ 547), six, eight and 12. They've been air-cooled, water-cooled, normally aspirated, turbocharged, and even electronical. Whatever works at the moment becomes the new "ABSOLUTELY MUST"... Until the next thing comes along.

True, but those archaic 4 cyl cars were stripped to the bone and weighed what, 1000 lbs? Very different animals. You're right that Porsche history is full of "no way" becoming "yes way", but I draw the line at a 4 banger numeric GT.

They won't be 911s. No flat 6, no 911. Like a battleship without colossal guns. Simply not a battleship.

Certainly fast, but not 911s.

I still fail to understand how some call EVs 'zero emissions.' Electricity must be generated, usually by burning something. Such a statement is abject ignorance.

LOL, yeah they were light, but they were still slow, even for the day. They never won anything but First in Class, that class generally being 1500cc and smaller.

But still, they were the first Porsche GTs:

In my view it depends on the level of performance rather than the number of cylinders. I do think it will be a much harder sell as a 4 cylinder.

If it is 390PS it will look like this: 718GT4 (981GT4 VBox)
0-60 = 3.24s (4.1)
0-100 = 7.98s (9.0)
0-130 = 13.79s (15.5)

Whichever way you box and dice it there will be around 100HP difference between the 992GT3 and the 982GT4. It is also worth pointing out, despite all the chest beating, when these cars are sitting in the 400HP+ range there is much less difference in the real world than on paper.
