Default Found a "new" Turbo S... with engine replacement...

Hello guys...

So In my search for a Turbo S I found one for sale, 24 Turbo S well optioned with 212 miles only! but with a carfax report of "lemon buy back"

The used car dealer is selling this car for about $15K off MSRP and they sent me all the info...

I proceeded to call the Porsche Dealership that sold the car...

Talked to the shop foreman, very nice guy he said he was very familiar with the car, the engine detonated on the first few miles and had to have the engine replaced with a completely new one, he said that the car was as new and shouldn't have any problems since it was fully tested and the car still has full manufacturer warranty.

So if I buy this car can it come bite me in the a$$ later? It seems reasonable to me... but am no expert as some in this forum are...

Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks
JC

Should be perfectly fine as it has a brand-new engine in it with full warranty.

I am betting the injectors had an issue and it ran lean?

It appears so, the engine grenaded in the first few miles hence the buy back... but wondering if this will affect resale in some way...

I refuse to pay over MSRP as I feel am paying a premium I will never get back down the road.

definitely don’t buy a car with a lemon title.

affecting re-sale is the biggest understatement ever.

no one will touch that thing with a ten foot pole

The price would have to be REALLY good with all the cars I see selling at sticker or less

The car will be just as new. The resale will probably be $20-$30K below market if I had to guess. I’d try to get the dealer to print out all the service records and confirmation of what was done and keep all records for resale purposes.

No one is going to buy this car with a $20-$30k discount when it has a lemon branded title. Are you out of your mind to save $15k, you are considering a lemon? I personally wouldnt even consider it unless the discount is 20-25% off msrp.

I think the car itself is probably good with the engine replacement and warranty and you’re getting a slight discount. If your goal is to buy the car and keep it long term then go for it. If you plan on getting rid of it in a few years I think you will be hosed trying to sell it or trade it in. There are plenty of used TTS to choose from and I doubt many people would consider a lemon buy back regardless when they have lots of options out there without a steep discount.

You might be right.

OP, what’s the MSRP on the car?

My build is $273K. I cannot imagine buying a lemon for more than $200-$210K maybe. I do agree with others that the resale will tank.

So I found more about this car. MSRP is $269K, asking is $248K. It’s a decent build, loaded. Discount puts it at 8%.

OP, this needs to be at $190K-$215K for this to make any sense. If you planning to keep this car 8-10 years, go for it. If you are planning to keep it 4-7 years, you’ll save $20K today to loose $40K down the road.

I wonder if you could use that to negotiate a GT3 RS allocation at MSRP. The lemon branded title is that onerous.
