Wasn't sure I was even getting a car & found out today it's actually built!
Weird situation, so my dealer asked for a configuration on Aug 3rd so I sent them the most current one I was thinking about. I figured, I'll send it in, and then they'll let me know when I'll get my allocation. And then they'll give me a lock date. Months went by and I heard nothing from anyone so I emailed them last night and they said they had a VIN # for me and that I'd get it in December.
What? What happened to sitting down with the manager of the dealership and going through all the options on the configurator like we talked about on Jan 31 when I put my $1000 deposit down? I had planned to do this, thought about it quite often since the manager of the dealership would have offered valuable insight but... that is not an option now. Apparently my car is built and sitting an Emden. I called Porsche USA when I got off the phone with my salesperson, in shock, and 35 minutes later they picked up.
They said, yes, congrats, you're getting a nice car in a time when cars are hard to come by so be happy, sir! I told them the situation and they said that Porsche would have sent me all these various emails over the last few months but since I had opted out, I didn't receive any info about the time the build would lock, or potential pictures of the car being built, and now for Track Your Dream, I'm out of luck for that too. Opted out? Say what? They can't change it now so I'll have no way to track it.
Hmmm, wow. I wanted to add leather seat backs w/carbon fiber inserts to the build, ACC and Nightvision and maybe silver seat belts instead of black, and racetex visors instead of leather, and a couple other little things but then I realized, "Steve, you are lucky to get a car, period, dude. Be grateful my friend". And I am. I never, ever would have used any of those tech features, I simply drive my car. I thought they might look cool on the car from the outside, the ACC and Nightvision, something different, but... I won't have them and that's just fine now.
And the leather seat backs with carbon would have looked great and were also on my NEW configuration (and never seen by my dealer) but I put stuff back there on occasion and I'd worry about it messing with the leather when it got tossed around. Some of you do a lot of high gloss black options on the exterior, and I get that about the tupperware looking rear diffuser, but I wanted a generic looking car, on purpose. One that doesn't stand out much and isn't too bright and shiny. And I saved $7k for the stuff I didn't even need listed above so that will pay for the PPF I guess.
This is the build that Porsche went with from Aug 3. http://www.porsche-code.com/PNHLAK20 $248,740
So now, maybe, I think I might try to sell my current car on my own instead of trading it in since it's only October and the car will in theory come in around Dec 10th (or maybe a month later, who knows). Porsche USA today said something like 11/19 exit Emden, 12/10 planned date to the dealer.
I don't know, I don't really care when I get it. I grew up middle class, was thrown out of my house at 17 to fend for myself, got into a college a year early somehow, was a messed up person on drugs till I was 30, stopped all that then, lived on ramen noodles, mac and cheese and peanut butter and honey sandwiches for years, then got an ok job around 31 years old and started saving. I'm just a salesman for a cable company so having a super nice new 911 Turbo S is a dream I figured was out reach years ago. I'm 60 y.o. now and plan to keep this car literally, forever.
Will need to find a great PPF and ceramic coating shop in the Rockville MD area to do my car so I'll start asking around to people in my area. If anyone knows a great shop please let me know.
The new car looks almost exactly like my old one. Most friends won't even blink an eye when they see it. GT Silver with black interior, same as my current car. If it wasn't for this forum, I never would have thought about buying this car. I got bored when Covid started and looked for a new diversion, it was the 992 Turbo/S forum. It was just dreaming at the time.
I super appreciate all the posts, threads, inputs of info, pics, links to cars and You Tube videos. Believe it or not, I read most every single thread and post since day 1 on here. I watched every YouTube video out there on the 992 Turbo and Turbo S, many of them 5X, even some in different languages using the YouTube captioning translator to figure out what they were saying.
I won't need to post 6 threads about "build about to lock... thoughts on this configuration?" I never had that opportunity like some others had but the car will be great as is. I have a giant word doc of cut and pasted notes from this forum about nicer floor mats to look into, license plate mounting options, things to ask the PPF company about before I choose them, types of PPF to look to get, battery trickle charger options, etc.

I am very happy for you! Great spec. I am flying a similar spec. Way to have a positive attitude towards the way your scenario played out. I too am grateful I will have the ability to own this magnificent machine.

Dude. Congrats on the car and hell of a story thanks for sharing. My car is at Emden also so we will probably be on the same Boat. Good to know on the youtube translator as well.

Wow. Crazy…Congrats!
Silver lining - you’re basically getting instant gratification here. No one has been able to get instant gratification on their TTS. Pretty cool.

Congrats
To put TTS in perspective, know couple of whales who get new TTS every yr who are still waiting for their major CA dealers to source an allocation for their annual-replacement 992TTS (they already have early 992TTS as DD, but still antsy to trade it in for a fresh copy w/different specs for similar duty)
And I, as a piker, got my (superb) CA dealer's 1st GT3 allocation (@MSRP), originally for 6/21 build, then moved to 9/21 build....and finally built in early Oct (and I never changed spec once submitted to dealer in ?Apr) and car is at Emden waiting for boat.....and in last 2wks TYD hasn't worked (claims car is both still scheduled for production and is also at Emden); dealer confirms car is at Emden
So, many are enduring these waiting games w/sloppy and/or misleading TYD info; but, if sourcing one's cars via upstanding dealers, not very concerned abt TYD ineptitude
In any case, enjoy the TTS: one of the epic cars on planet today, at any price.....there are many junkies like us eagerly awaiting these phenomenally engineered cars

Congrats!! I guess the long wait for the allocations is over! Bummer that you didn't get the option for the last say in your build though. Sort of happened to me too since the PTS builds tend to lock despite the listed lock date. As for painting the rear valence gloss black, I left mine matte black as well. While many think it looks plasticy, and it does, I'm apprehensive about the inevitable swirling of all gloss black paint. I have this on the rear of my R8, and it is a dust collector with the exhaust and the tires (I'm assuming).
Oh, cool story!
