Default Why are so few people picking Racing Yellow when yellow used to be so popular?

It seems that hardly anyone is picking Racing Yellow on this forum. I wonder why?
Is it the specific color of Racing Yellow people don't like?
Have tastes changed and people want something less flashy?
But if that's so, no one would be picking Carmine Red, Shark Blue, Lava Orange, Guards Red, etc....

Is it that this yellow isn't as loved on this body style of the 992 Turbo or Turbo S? It seems amazing to me with the yellow brakes and black accents setting it off beautifully.
If I was a flashier guy, I'd want it for sure...or Lava Orange or Python Green.

So what is it? Is it the color itself? Would people prefer a special paint to sample different yellow instead for some reason like signal yellow? But why? Racing Yellow seems awesome.
Where's the love for it? Did it fly out the window? It seems gone. Has yellow on a Porsche Turbo S seen its best day many years ago?

Have most of us become very conservative with color and shy away from a bright yellow?

I see 4 potential issues with that color. 1. Unlike, black, white and silver, yellow could be more of a fad. It's really popular at one point, but then fades away for a few years. Green tends to do the same. 2. For that reason, resale could be more difficult due to less buyers interested in yellow. 3. Currently, it's not one of the standard colors, so its much more expensive. (An extra 12K??). 4. it's a harder color to configure properly, meaning to get all the pieces to look good together and match where needed. I've seen some beautiful yellow turbo Ss and GT4s that were done by someone who clearly had a good eye for design, so they really popped and stood out. I've also seen some poor executions of yellow, which don't look good at all. My two cents.

Good question - probably the same reason why you don't see many Python, Lava - or hopefully not too many Shark Blue cars .

Most people are just not into bold or color today, but not sure why. Had to go across 2 state lines to find my wife's new Audi in the blue she really wanted - there were only like 2 in the whole US,....but I could find many of the the grey-scale colors within 25 miles. It's tough to find any manufacture that even offers a blue or god forbid a red or green out there today. As I've said before - I sit at popular intersections - and it looks like a black and white movie.

When I was at my dealer a few months ago - a Race Yellow 992 TTS was there for service - black accents, black calipers, ED wheels in black - man, did it look good. If you are thinking about it - take the dive. I used to be a strictly black car person till I went "wild" with Guards/Carmine red - now on to SB. I have loved all of them - and always got compliments.

Yellow is not very fashionable right now.

Also, I don’t love racing yellow. Speed Yellow is pretty cool (that 993 TTS you posted looks like Speed Yellow).

The Boxster is Speed Yellow in this pic, 911 Racing Yellow.

Racing Yellow is a standard free color.

I prefer Speed Yellow over racing yellow. But I also prefer red or blue over yellow. Not a huge yellow car fan, but some cars can pull it off.

I just was looking at a 911 Turbo (not an S) and I think Racing Yellow is a great color on the car. Just don't tell anyone and it will continue to be just as uncommon as some PTS colors. I had a yellow S2000, an orange BOSS 302 Mustang and now a Miami Blue GT4. As you experienced, I always get compliments and had no problems selling the first two bright cars.
It seems that half of the threads on Rennlist start about "value" or devolve into "value" threads. It also seems that the consensus is that Black, White and Silver/Grey are the safe colors for resale. I am not convinced that is true, but "they" say it is and some people are gullible enough to believe "them."
I am considering Frozen Berry for my next car. That one might be a little more out there, but I saw it on a Taycan and liked it.
Bottom line? Buy what you like.

I seriously considered racing yellow for my TT as I think it looks amazing but ultimately decided on jet black metallic. One of the reasons I bought a Turbo is because it has super car performance without the attention. Having a bright yellow car would negate some of this.

I already own multiple cars with bright colors and I feel like I'm the center of attention on the roads, especially when I'm driving fast or aggressively.

Signal Yellow was one of my final options before I settled on Club Blue. Reminded my of the old crayola color, Yellow-Orange, that was discontinued.

I was told by an Italian friend that this was the reason you didn’t see many white Ferrari vehicles years past—since taxis are white in Italy. I don’t know how true this is.

My TTS is a daily driver, so I didn’t want a loud color. Being understated was why I bought the TTS.

I think it's because 911's have grown in size. A modern 911 in racing or speed yellow is sensory overload unless having significant amount of black or carbon contrast (ie. GT2 RS). I think signal yellow works better on the 991/992 platform and would even consider it (or Ruby Star) on the 992 RS.
