Need a value tonight (NOT a appreciation or depreciation Thread!!)

That said, paying over sticker on a TTS is a big mistake.
Frankly, I wouldn't pay over sticker on a GT car either, for that matter.

I tend to agree with the sentiment of the crowd - why pay over MSRP. With that said the following Turbo S sold on pcarmarket for $255k, according to vinanalytics that’s $18,750 over! Go figure...

To All,
Need a favor - very good friend interested in a 2021 992 911 Turbo S. It is essentially a new car (less than 500 miles). It is optioned to the max - sticker $250K. He is considering purchasing tomorrow.
I really need to give him some good advice. They are asking just over sticker. Seems strong to me. Anyone bought one lately and have real pricing data? Please avoid "well I think....".
If you are uncomfortable sharing on this tread please PM me. The info will kept confidential.
Thx!!

So the dealer actually discounted 16.76% (12.76% divided by 100% minus 23.85%) on the RSP before taxes.
But the RSP here in Europe is higher than in the US!
And the dealer I purchase from is 100 miles further away from my place than the dealer closest to me (10 mile)
In short: don't pay more than sticker price and negotiate a discount like hell! ESPECIALLY ON THE ADD-ONS (OPTIONS)!!!

If you want one now then you are likely to pay over the odds. Seems like a global demand thing, as here in the UK some are up for sale at dealers for well over new price because they are in short supply at present.
Some just want one now so they will pay the price......I wouldn't, but then, I already have mine.

DeviousDog, SUPER SUPER SUPER! Exactly what I am looking for. As I stated originally, I am not purchasing the car, just advising on price. Whether the buyer wants the car, how bad, how he negotiates, etc., etc., etc, all up to him. I wasn't looking for he should or should not buy it, trying to help him price it! This is perfect. I have a couple more emails like this, so I am good! None are this good though. A car the same color similar spec sold 3 days ago! You are a genius! Thx!

If he loves the spec of the car, and wants it right now, and he can afford to pay the premium... then why not?
However, if the car is black and he really wants red, then I would submit that he is going to regret buying it... very quickly.
(the colors are just an example. My point is that; he needs to love the car - not compromise)
I agree that the car will depreciate - but it's going to depreciate whether you pay full sticker price, or slightly more.
A premium (or even a depreciation loss) in a year or two will quickly be forgotten, if he truly loves the car.
Performance stats and everything aside; People buy these cars based on emotion.

- How does the car make you feel when you're standing there staring at it?
- How does the car make you feel when you're behind the wheel of it?
- How does the car make you feel when you're rolling-up to your buddy's house in it?

I assume he wants it - otherwise he wouldnt be thinking about paying top $. These cars are hard to get. I don't think the supply will loosen for at least 6+ months. I personally wouldn't pay over sticker. But some of the posters here don't really know anything about the TTS market. To offer $175 is implying he doesn't want it - cos that aint gonna get a deal done.
Given its not new or an ordered car - I would be in the MSRP to -2 to-5% range. Unless its his dream spec/color and he's just gotta have it today.

I ordered a 992 turbo s cab in oct 2020 on an allocation in the US. I called three different dealers that had allocations at the time and none would budge of msrp.
The new/used car market is crazy. Regardless of how you look at it, the car is going to depreciate. If you can afford $250k you can afford another $5k premium.
I’ve never paid msrp for a car until now, and never this much before on one before either.
however the time in my life is right for the purchase, and to be honest, I’d pay a little more than msrp to get the car I’ve always wanted.
ive got my financial house in order and my kids college funded and my retirement. I’m going to leave them some money, but I’m going to start harvesting the fruit of the trees I planted 15 years ago.
it’s just money. When I’m 80 yrs old, I won’t care about the money I have saved up, but I will love the memories of driving such a magnificent machine!

the concept is simple: supply & demand. As long as there are no or very few allocations, the dealer can ask whatever they deem appropriate... it is up to us mortals to accept, or to wait for it.

Assuming this isn’t the first +$200k car this person will have considered purchasing. Why not simply rely on ones personal experience to answer his own question(s). You want something now that’s in demand and short supply you’re going to pay for it. Set a budget, make offer and be satisfied with the outcome.

I'd be less focused on a small premium to sticker than the depreciation curve of a modern turbo. If he's good with what the car will probably be worth in 12-24 months, $5k + / - to drive the car he likes today is a rounding error. Life is short...

The deal did not go through. Seller would not agree to a price at or below original MSRP. Car sold to someone else, I can only assume at or above MSRP.
