Default 992 GT3 or 992 GT3RS?

I have one of the moved to 2025 GT3RS cars which is giving me a couple of months to think. The basic question is, is it worth the upgrade or is it an ego play? I really love my current 992 GT3 but I don’t want to pass up an opportunity that most in this world will never experience. I track a few times a year nothing serious, more because I can’t go to jail at the track for driving my car the way it should be driven. Any input would be welcome!

My potential trade.

Keep the GT3. It’s more than enough performance and way more usable

and gimme the RS allocation

So that’s 1 vote for the 3RS? 🤣

Maybe do one of Porsche's GT3 RS experiences at their track at PECLA to help you decide.

Good suggestion.

My view is unless your a manual devotee don’t pass on the RS. I have owned several GT3’s and own an RS. Not to offend GT3 owners, the RS is more special. Once you own one, you wouldn’t go back.

I was in the same predicament with my 992 GT3 when I was offered an RS allocation (I'm in Australia so the price was at MSRP, no ADM other than us paying circa 450k USD regardless).

I often refer to the Law of Diminishing Returns. The RS makes zero sense when you compare the specs but it does have that WOW factor.

I traded my GT3 in and am awaiting delivery of my RS.

If you can afford it and you want it, buy it but it's hard to justify the expense on a value for money scale.

I'm sure the 12yo version of you would be very very happy to be getting an RS.

Either one is a win win. I certainly don't think those getting an RS is due to an ego play. I love my RS for the simple fact that it is a very special and unique Porsche and something that doesn't come around very often. I have the GT3 as well and a manual at that, and I would say that it would be the car I sold if I could only have one. The 3RS just checks all the boxes for me (sense of occasion, driving dynamics, visual sensation, etc)

Yep, RS is the better choice if you’ll enjoy it on the track and like pdk. GT3 for Manual option and better ability to pack luggage for a longer road trip.

Neither car is good for long trips but if I had to use one it certainly would be the GT3. That's why most of us own a sedan or SUV.

Thank you to all of you RS owners for setting me straight. I am a PDK guy and have a family flex vehicle (SUV). After reading everyone’s responses I’m definitely gonna go for the RS experience. I can’t thank you guys enough for your input.

Default I Wish

I wish I could have both! Unfortunately that’s not in the cards for me.

Buy the RS and keep both for a bit, see which you prefer and sell the other. But give it a fair amount of time to decide as you will be having some buyers excitement for a while with the RS most likely. So would have to drive both and see which ticks all the boxes for you. Is your GT3 a manual?

I have 3 cars and the GT3 is the most comfortable (no problem with long trips in the LWB seats and a small inflatable lumbar pillow).

You'll be fine with the GT3 as long as you don't drive an RS....
