Default GT3 PDK vs Manual lap times?

Does the PDK make a big difference? How about at Monticello where the new Z06 has beaten the manual GT3 by just over a second? What do you think?

3 seconds on 13 mile (7 minute) Nürburgring lap and generally 0.25 to 0.5 sec per minute on others. Even less for driver like Randy Pobst (0.1 or 0.2 sec in 991.2 GT3 for full lap of Willow Springs with PDK car being equipped with lighter spec).

PDK will be marginally faster. But at the end of the day, are you out there racing to beat someone else or to win a prize? Most of us will say no. I'm just tracking my car to have fun which is why I got the manual.

The best way to go faster is to invest in the driver. In the past year of GT3 ownership, I've improved my lap times by 9 secs on a 2 minute track which is a massive improvement. Half of that is just overcoming my personal fear and taking advantage of the improved aero on high speed turns. The other half is just becoming a better driver. Compare that 9 secs to Grant's data above for the time advantage of a pdk.

This. Invest in a Coach. 99% of the GT3 owners will not never get near the full performance of a 992 GT3. PDK is clearly faster and easier to drive. You can focus on the track and not have to worry about shifting. It will also help with balance and smoothness. Quiet frankly these cars are way, way too fast even a 6-7 / 10th of the car's capabilities. It scares the crap out of me get in the right seat when I am instructing at an event in one of these types of cars even after 20 years of instructing.

PDK is faster, but it certainly depends on the track and driver. I think the 1+ second per 2 min is a fair estimate for a rule of thumb.

pdk saves the most time vs manual when you have to go down a bunch of gears or up a bunch of gears in one corner, with some steering angle.

if your local track is mainly 3-4th gear with one hairpin it will be less than a second per lap if you are a really good driver.

same can be said on GT3 vs RS- the power difference is really not that drastic like a GT2RS would be. the only advantage you get in the RS is more grip and confidence in 100mph+corners. the MT is a lot lighter than the PDK which offsets a bit of the ease of shifting.

driver error >>>> car outputs ( for lap times)

Does it really thought? You don't think the same driver would always beat his own time in a PDF vs Manual? I mean the PDK shifts are in milliseconds and the quickest manual shifter still requires your arm and leg to move...

I do agree with you. The PDK is faster with the same driver. You can see it on long straights with data. The MT loses momentum during the shifts.

Also, with a PDK you don’t need to use near as much mental capacity. Near the limit, the extra concentration is real and effects the ability to be as smooth on steering and timing.

Again, on a somewhat technical track, I think the difference is about 1 sec per min of lap time.
