Deposit without Order Demand

Deposit without Order Demand
One dealer agrees to take a $1k deposit in exchange for being placed on their "list" for a potential allocation one day.
Another dealer takes a $2.5k deposit in exchange for "placing an Order Demand with Porsche" (he says a person can only place 1 of these with Porsche at a time, can't place one at every dealer).
My question is, how does the first dealer get possible allocations if they are not placing an 'Order Demand'? Do they request allocations some other way?
Just curious if anyone has explanations for this. I know dealer can "do" whatever they want, and it's possible the first dealer literally is just taking deposits and hoping people simply forget about them? Just curious if there is any reason to any of this. Thank you!

Dealers I know have their list and don't take money until they have an allocation for the customer at that point it varies from $5k-10k at most stores/ what I've been asked to put down. Everyone is a bit different and with a couple hundred stores you'll find people all over the map. If we are specifically talking about a GT car there is no pipeline for a deposit to generate an allocation or I'd have my 992 GT3. My .02

If a demand order is placed it will be in your name and Porsche will be able to see it. For example, at Porsche Together Fest last month I talked to some Porsche folks on site to help clean up MyPorsche app, it had old cars listed and new ones still missing. They pulled up my profile and saw that I had a GT3 RS order in the System. On the otherhand, If a dealer simply takes a deposit for a list it is an arbitrary agreement that honestly means nothing. Make sense?

i have a demand order for new RS, so it’s viewable to Porsche in my name. But it’s also why can’t have numerous demand orders in your name at various dealers; numerous deposits however you can certainly have!

Yes, sounds like we are in the same exact situation. Is there some way to confirm / view status of demand order? Not that there is likely any status of interest...

A demand order is just the dealer telling Porsche they have a customer who wants to order a car.
It does not increase allocations. It does not guarantee an allocation.
Really doesn't do a whole lot but make the customer feel happy until they end up with no car.
I guess it is possible, but not likely, that Porsche could increase production if demand is high. But they already know demand is high, so. . .

You are better off with a demand order then without one. A demand order can increase your chances of getting a car as Porsche does track demands. Agree with the others that it does not guarantee a build slot but you are ahead with the dealer that gave you a demand code vs the one that did not.

frankly I do not understand why they need deposit.
the car sells itself
if u re-neg. what is the big deal.
in fact, the buyer should insist on paying deposit to secure the car on paper
the seller should decline deposit for the next higher bidder
I really cannot understand how car business work....
