Maybe referring to the M4, used in endurance series, where engine won't restart after shutting down because the cam is in a bad position?

That said the BMW's are pigs! We are looking at around 400+ pound difference vs the GT3.
3640lbs for the M4 CSL —that weight for RWD only with all of that carbon fiber is shocking.

and the 8speed automatic is what it is.

Logical given that it’s 450 pounds heavier and a higher centre of gravity. Aside from price point and both being German, I’m not sure why a sedan based car is being compared to a sports car. Perhaps a Mustang GT350 or ZL1 Camaro would be more appropriate?

in that case, IMHO, the ZL1 Nurburgring lap time is faster.

I like where you’re going with this. Still doesn’t favor this might vaunted CSL version.

Agreed it is an odd comparison - I think BMW M division are still on the search for relevance. I'm also wondering where the market is for the CSL, more so as the back seats have been removed.

So let’s see …

One is NA flat 6, the other a is turbo V6.
One sounds like Adriana Lima circa 2000 climaxing (allegedly), the other doesn’t.
One is a manual, the other is PRNDL.
One is one of the most iconic and beautiful cars ever made, the other is a valid argument for ancient alien genetic engineering between a car and a beaver.

Ask me how I feel about the XM and the direction BMW is going towards, I dare you.

The CSL looks like a great car and will probably do well with future values. I don’t understand why they compared with a GT3? They cannot be considered real competitors. The BMW is for an enthusiastic M4 owner. BMW is not going to woo people away from buying a GT3.

Good car and glad BMW built it but not in the league of a GT3. Probably not even fair to compare it against a C2S.

The pull from 50mph in 3rd gear has the GT3 lugging at 4,300rpm, less than half of its redline and well below the meat of the power band. The result would have been different if the GT3 would have been in 2nd gear instead @ 5,900rpm. Even the 40mph pull would have been different if the GT3 would have been in 1st gear @ 7,500rpm. Not saying the GT3 would necessarily be in front, but at least there would much less gap.

CarWOW = Click bait
As the owner of a NA car, I noticed this and was annoyed with that part also

I doubt anybody is actually cross shopping a CSL against the GT3. If anything, many CSL customers probably already own a GT3 or some other 911 model(s).

I had a M4 DTM Champ Edition in the last gen, it was a slightly rarer M4 GTS. Was a fun car on track, great skids, bit of a hooligan. It was similar pace to my friend in his 992 Carrera S in it.

Key difference being the 911 is designed as a sports car chassis, and the M4 is designed to be anything from an exec saloon through to what we see in the videos above. The 911 will always be more refined, but am sure the CSL would be a fun drive!

As for cross-shopping. I was offered a CSL which I turned down as I got a GT4RS allocation.

Agreed, completely different starting points. The CSL appears to be a bit of a hooligan from what I can tell from on the onboard videos. I think it would nicely complement a GT3 or 4RS in the garage (as it will in my case). Congrats on your 4RS allocation.

Sorry my opinion doesn't coincide with yours, modern BMW's are hot garbage when it comes to motorsport.

I enjoy nice things that work well in general. That's including everything in this world including the kitchen sink.

M4 CSL is nice when you want a bunch of swaggy teenagers standing around you and your car in a circle jerk.

Curious, why such hatred towards the CSL? Not that it matters, but the CSL video from the ‘Ring has 860,000 views and a lot of positive comments so not sure what it is in particular about the car that triggered your comment.
