That’s my logic. Why invest the money into an engine that’s only going to be around for a few years for a few thousand cars? Can’t imagine the R&D to make the 4.2 pass all the emissions tests.

They got over a decade from the 4L and build easily over 15k cars from it right?

This is a bet i don’t want to win. A 4,2 would be just peachy

They only built 600 examples of the 997 RS 4.0L

But alot of the tech that was dervied from the 997 RS 4.0L engine (from the RSR and GT3 R) was then carried over to the 991 GT3 3.8L.

I don't see that happening this time if Porsche is moving to KERS/Hybrid/EV.

No, the Mezger 4.0L and 9A1 3.8L had almost nothing in common.

Mezger receives much of the credit, deservedly so, for the original Porsche flat six design and evolution, but it is worth noting that it was Ferdinand Piech who essentially overhauled the original design of the early prototype six. His drive and forceful determination made the “Mezger” a reality. At the 63 Frankfurt show the 901/911 did not yet have an engine.

That white with red wheels and decals, awesome right there. Along with the green RS special.

Its only for the NA market!

Could it be limited to North America because of Euro Emission mandates?

Just a design/appearance pack.

Not sure why they would limit it to US, article says second home of 911. Sales based. What about a pack for the homeland?

Correct, seems it will just be an appearance package for USA cars. Think of this white/green tribute car as the Speedster Heritage concept car, then whatever the resulting package is would be an optional extra, perhaps limited in numbers, for US allocations. I imagine it is because they'll be including some special parts on the car that may need further safety testing and it doesn't make sense to develop it for all markets, and they know the American market will pony up the $$. Though, I'm sure there will be other region specific 992 RS special editions as the months roll on.

It's purely cosmetic no need for safety certification. In fact it would be easier in other markets to include a bar where we in the US likely won't be able to get it. Wouldn't surprise me to see other country or regional specific packages before production is over.

Pretty easy to get a white NON-WP and get 99% of the way there. Even interior trim painted in exterior color is free.
Aftermarket paint on wing struts and graphics. Paint wheels green.

I saw a Instagram post by Andy Preuninger where he called it a "one off", I hope this is wrong.ap_andypreuninger
Back from the stage in California Wingman has returned to his hometurf……the black forrest. Blends in perfectly and drives even better on secret little roads in the deserted woodland. Thanks for all the praise and thumbs ups for this showcar that we specced as a „one off“ to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Carrera RS. I am sure it will end up in the museum one day alongside his legendary grandfather 😀
