Default PTS GT3 Touring - Iris Blue Metallic

I first fell in love with this color when I spotted it in the Chris Harris teaser video for the 992, and I'd seen a few pictures since then which did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm. I ordered my 992 Touring a year ago, with Cognac exclusive interior and some fun details, and it arrived a week ago and is every bit as gorgeous in person as I had hoped, with the blue transitioning to purple depending on angle and light, and the gold wheels and yellow CCBs providing accents and balance for the mile-deep paint.

The 992 itself is a substantial upgrade from the 991 Touring - evolutionary rather than revolutionary, quieter inside in cruise mode yet more raucous when the exhaust starts to talk. The steering is far more direct than its predecessor, with the car settling into neutral cornering attitude without having to pitch the weight forward, and the ride (at least with the OEM Pirellis) is quite similar to the 991 on Cup 2's. The shifter is a delight, light and positive and so quick to pick up a gear that the revs often haven't finished dropping. The infomatics are of course a generation newer and feel it; wireless Android Auto is a particularly nice addition.

While I have many break-in miles to get acquainted with the 992, all in all I'm already ready to call it my new favorite sports car. It does everything extremely well, it's beautiful and fast and yet very easy to live with, and it has all the performance you can use on the street (and more!) in a nostalgic 6-speed, 9000-rpm N/A package.

Bravo, Porsche. Bravo.

The best was to see it is to look at a 993 in Iris blue.

Then the memories come flooding back.

In the flesh they’re different. Iris is slightly more vibrant with a subtle pearl. If given the choice I would choose Iris over Gentian every time. It was one of my favorite colors on the 993.

Nope. I have a Gentian Porsche as well, and Iris Blue has more pearl, more hue change, and more depth than Gentian. Both are excellent examples of deep metallic blue, but they're distinct.

Well there you go! How about a photo of both side by side?

Iris is a killer blue. I have Gentian inbound, as PTS was frozen out when my order locked. But we stock it in our Plug line and other trim, and when you see them side by side, it's much more obvious. The depth of Iris, and the 'flop' to purple does not exist on Gentian.

When you are ready to make those rear reflectors Iris let us know. We're here for you!

Drive safe.

PS This image on left, from C Harris, is Iris. The right is Gentian on what appears to be a Cayman GT4. Lighting plays a major role here, but the bluish-nature of Gentian is prevalent. The Iris on the left is stunning and depth of blue and purple is strong in person. No question from 20' they will appear similar. In daylight or late afternoon sun, not similar.
