Great opportunity for Eric at BumperPlugs to make us paint to match vents.

THANK YOU. I said that since the beginning. Everything that is wrong with the rear bumper starts at that overhang, and if its not functionally aerodynamic, then why the !#$% did you screw up the looks for a fake vent?

It overshadows all other things on my mind right now - from Covid to world peace and stuff like that....

Grow up and go find some real problems! It is an effing plastic cover on a car and everyone from here to the end of the world are using them. You can also be happy that this is an opportunity for you to modify your car with an aftermarket part if this is such a life or death situation for you.

Some of these discussions are worse than the "House wife of this and the house wife's of that". Sounds like a bunch of whining kids.

And, yes - the Yacht is real! Perhaps that is what it took - to see it on something more impressive than a VW...

I like the statement " Shut up and drive" and think a lot of people here should apply that before offering their opinions.

We’ve established that the 992 GT3 has fake vents as does the 991.2 RS.

What about the 991.2 GT3?

They have been fake since 997.

Thanks for the useful comment. I did look at my car and thought it looked that way but I didn’t take it apart.

Do you mean the last cars to have real vents were the 997s or that fake vents started with the 997s?

Wouldn’t this make it a heat extractor, venting the excess heat out of the rear?

If you take a look inside your bumper vent, the duct is pressed against the part that I circled. Sure, there are some tiny gaps around it and some hot air in the region will escape. But It really doesn't do anything meaningful, IMO.

That’s how you do a real vent (photo: 992 Cup).

Lots of things in these cars (from the 997 generation forward) are not functional.

Lets begin with everyone's favorite punching bag -- centerlock wheels. Not exactly functional in the sense that it's supposed to reduce weight and make changing wheels easier. But there they are.

The car is trash now. Stupid fake vents. Who wants my PTS allocation @ MSRP?

I can only speak in reference to the 991.2 GT3, the vents in the rear bumper are real. Yes, there's a plastic part that is about 2 inches behind it, but it's completely open on one side of it, making plenty of room for heat to escape. Put your hand there after a drive, heat is indeed escaping. I believe the plastic piece is there to prevent debris, i.e. pebbles and such from passing through and scratching the paint or to channel it. Like someone has mentioned, AP has been a big proponent of, Form Following Function, this vent-like trim on the 992 being completely counter to that philosophy. The faux vent may be insignificant to some and not so insignificant to others. I'm in the latter camp. I think it's disappointing to see this on a GT car.

Sounds like a solid opportunity for an aftermarket company to build a nice piece for those concerned. Even in the RS pictures, it looks like the real-ish vent pretty much just cools the 1" air gap between the bumper cover and internal structure at best. I guess if it's venting anything it's technically functional, right? haha IMO not a huge deal either way, but does seem like a bit of a missed opportunity on one of the little detail things Porsche enthusiasts seem to appreciate.
