Affirmative- although I have not logged on FB in over a year- at the wife’s request. In retrospect, it was a good move… gave me more time to play video games 😀

This isn’t a private auction for dealers. This was on eBay. That’s a retail sale.

I get it, you are from a generation that thinks there a special rules that should be in place to make everything seem fair. This is America. If they want to sell it to a buyer that’s willing to pay more than you, then they can.

I get it, you are from a generation that doesn't read and follow the published rules: here's the actual text from dealer as listed on the eBay auction (minimum bid was 200K) as legally required, specifying how to 'bid on this auction'. (if the dealer had instead advertised 236K 'on sale this week only' but not at auction, i'd have no problem)

Terms
  1. Placing a Bid: Your bid constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle. Please do not bid if you're not seriously interested or financially able to purchase this vehicle. Please read eBay's User Agreement
  2. Porsche of Lehigh Valley reserves the right to,
    1. Obtain and verify the registered information of all users who bid on this auction.
    2. Cancel any and all bids at our discretion, or end the auction early if necessary.
  3. Bidders Age: You must be 18 years of age or older to Bid.
  4. Special eBay Bid Retraction Rules: Please read eBay's "Retracting a Bid"
    1. If you place a bid before the last 12-hour period of the auction:
      • You may retract that bid before that last 12-hour period but only for exceptional circumstances. You will not be allowed to retract that bid during the last 12-hour period of the auction.
    2. If you place a bid during the last 12-hour period of the auction:
      • You will be allowed to retract the bid for exceptional circumstances but only if you do so within one hour after placing the bid.

True, but it hasn’t reached freeze date yet. If they change the build, you know PAG will reshuffle the delivery dates. Same thing has been happening to lots of people with approaching freeze dates.

What are people adding to GT3 builds that options it into the 200s outside of PTS/CCBs? Do people really find that much extra value out of coating the fuse boxes and every other surface in every leather package out there and paying 6k on deviated stitching and such?

You can definitely spec a really nice car for under $200K, but it is easy to get sucked in and start checking off boxes that add up quickly.

These fairly common options get you to $193,200
  • PCCB–$9,210
  • Leather/Race-Tex Interior (blue)–$6,230
  • Full Bucket Seats–$5,900
  • Special Paint–$4,220
  • Front Axle Lift–$3,670
  • Wheels (not silver)–$1,290
  • Extended Fuel Tank–$230
  • D/H–$1,350
Check a few more "want > need" boxes and you are right at $200K. I could probably spec one I am happy with at $185K, but I am incrementally happier at $200K. I have never had the chance to fully spec a GT3, so I want to be incrementally happier. Plus, it is an appreciating asset—at least if you focus only on the sale prices over the past few months.

Yeah I think the current market is an outlier, though time will tell. If you just take off the special color and you like Guards Red or something instead then you're awfully close to those mid 180s he was calling "crappy" with a pretty good build.

Yes, the current market is most likely an outlier. But I keep telling myself that the more I "invest" now, the more the GT3 will be worth later. LOL. I am always a sucker for overpriced Porsche options, checking boxes for things I never even imagined until they get listed on the order guide. You can definitely build a nice car, especially a track-focused car, for the mid 180's. Dry humor rarely translates well in these forums.

Yeah, I mean if I had my way I'd have custom PTS and things like purple deviated stitching and things like that, but I can't stomach THAT much haha. There are definitely some tasty options I'd probably do on a Carrera S or Turbo that seem a bit off on a GT3 to me. I figure this is my halo car finally being able to afford one after sitting in a 996 GT3 in a dealer many afternoons after school all those years ago, having the secretary yelling at us for rowing the gears dry and having the sales guy tell them to let us be. I don't think I'll ever want to sell it barring something really unfortunate happening. It means a lot after all the adults in my life were telling me back then where I'd end up and their destination for me being way lower than I wound up today. Really hope it works out, at least for a 992.2 in a few years when the lists have run their course in front of me.

Always love it when somebody calls someone out because they don't follow their lifestyle, do their spending habits, etc, etc, etc. I wouldn't call it being lucky in the genetic sperm lottery, buts its definitely approaching something close to it.
