LOL.

Why mention it then and also say the car would lose 20 HP without the roof strakes??

LOL

I think this car is great in current 3RS form but will be excellent and gel/make more sense in 2RS guise with a racified newer 992 turbo engine and an additional 250hp

marketing?

I’m surprised they bothered with the boomerang stuff / doing away with the frunk + the roof strakes etc-- a lot of stuffing about for relatively small gains, makes me wonder.

How much extra air density / heat would be needed for +20hp over 500?

I’m guessing you will not even notice the heat at speed, will be interesting to see

You must be joking! They can’t even attempt a Ring time because of a modest heat.

Check the math, air density is huge for a NA engine. For easy reference look at performance graphs for NA planes. Your will see how big it is.

Frankly, feeding the engine with 135+ air temps is likely more than 20hp.

We'll know soon enough. I'm betting your average track rat will not care, or notice the effect.

Lap times don’t lie. It’s in the data. You can’t ask any “average” track rat the difference in power between the summer and winter. Just ask AP why they don’t have a lap time…

Come on we all can tell the difference in engine performance on a cool vs warm day etc.

Question is from a design point of view the concept of
making a choice then having to come up with work arounds to deal with its shortcomings is not very elegant.

I think the strakes are badass sexy and the boomerang concept etc. cool but they are workarounds.

Well said
LOL. I think this is said about so many Porsches and yet the line up to get one new or used will be astronomical!

Not sure what the argument is about but sure we’ll see, when "data" is actually available.

It really smells like the car isn’t fully baked, as hinted in the AP videos disruption likely inhibited a few plans.

If the aerodynamics of the car work, then we DO KNOW for a FACT that your face will catch that hot air. The whole purpose of the hood scoops and the side air intakes in rear fender is for that air to be channeled over the rear wheel. If you assume for a second that these guys built the scoops for the reasons they say did then knowing the window is on the path of that air, you can clearly see how some of that air will enter the cabin.

i wonder if they modelled the effects with the windows down, maybe you dont need the strakes in the US, haha

Yep. Totally agree. The engine development lagged the aero.

This is a miss.

Wait for the .2 with the 4.2.

I recall a thumbrule that every 10 degrees is about 1% hp in an NA engine. So for ~500 hp that is about 20hp for a 40 degree drop in ambient temperature. Not a lot but enough to make a difference on a 12.9 mile course.

I'll say it again but I think the ring time was done and it was not really good so Porsche is waiting for temps to come down. Only 15hp more than the GT3, but higher drag and lower top speed. They didn't want to come out with a disappointing number at press launch.....so that's the story. The car is down on power for the added aero.

I personally don't care. I'm not going to be driving on the Ring (actually I will but only once). I think on most tracks that people drive on, the GT3 will be neck and neck with the RS. Essentially no difference.

992.2 GT3 is sounding really appealing. Or even 992.1 GT3. Or for those of us who already have 991 GT3/RS, maybe just keep that. My 991.1 GT3 is now 7 years old, and is still a beast.
